Guest diggerer Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 Hi,ive got an 02 plate galaxy tdi 115,and recently it has started to misfire.the misfire only starts after you have gone for a few miles then runs ok after the temp gauge has reached normal. It starts up ok and only starts to misfire when the temp shows just above "50" ,then misfire goes when temp gets to "90".any body got any ideas,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Cheers  Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 i would check the glow plugs first. Dont know how to do it, but i think theres a thread about it somewhere. MJR Quote

MJR Sorry, but I think that's garbage. Glowplugs are only used for a few seconds when starting the engine on a diesel, it is more likely to be a dirty injector. Try running a bottle of injector cleaner through the tank. John Quote

John Sorry, but I think that's garbage. the Glow plugs are left on at a reduced setting for a while till the engine reaches a certain temperature in order to improving overall engine performance and help in reducing smoke emissions and combustion noise after start up it could be temp sensor giving a dodgy reading and calling for the glow plugs to operate under normal running conditions and causing pre ignition of the fuel? not a great lover of TDI's, I'm sure someone with an interest in them will be along later to suggest another reason for this problem  Quote

I've had quite a few diesels in the past, but this is the first one that holds the glowplugs on during warm up  I was surprised to find that the glowplugs are more or less instantaneous....no preheat delay on startup. Should have given me a clue. John Quote

But there is no "reduced setting" (only a relay involved here). When do you last change the fuel filter - water in the fuel filter causes misfiring symptoms to start with. Quote

As you say, its just straight off a relay (K70 - pre-glow relay). VR6! where did you get this notion?? John Quote
Guest diggerer Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 Just to update you all, started the galalxy up today to go and get new fuel filter just in case i had picked up bit of dirty fuel.Ran like a shit house flush all the way (4 mile)parked it up ,went in and bought filter ,came out 5mins later engine started without misfire and drove 100% :) :) Changed filter but it was spotless :o :D Quote
