Gearbox

After dropping down into second the engine started to race and the car ground to a halt. The gear selector seems fine and so does the clutch. All i get is a crunching noise when trying to put the engine in gear.

 

The car is a four years old six-speed manual 1.9tdi and has only done 53000 miles.

 

Are gearboxes the same for right-hand and left-hand drives?

 

 

Any thoughts on whether the gearbox has gone or could i be lucky and it's something cheap.
