I'm thinking about changing my 2.3 auto for a 2.8, maybe a year or so old. The difference in fuel consumption isn't that much, the V6 is about 10% worse. And it's probably worth it for the enjoyment. But where are thay all? They seem to be as rare as hen's teeth!

New shape used Galaxys are all rare! I spent about 4 months looking for my 2-year old example (from Jan to start of May this year) and ended up going to an MPV specialist as the Ford dealers and their "chain" owners had none in group stock.

If you can get to White City, London, this place usually has a load of Galaxys.

Car Giant

(Just had a look, and they have 39 Galaxys of which 1 is a 2.8 ! - seem to be in short supply)

Another in and around South West London is

MJA Car Sales

Today they have 3 2.8 cars out of 13 Galaxys.

You will find that the majority of Galaxys are in Germany, a lot of members of the Army (British) have bought them, including me. On the road where i live there are 12, plates from 02, 52, 03 & 53, Mostly Ghia spec but a few Zetecs are around. Wait until next year you will have plenty to choose from on the UK market when we export them. Only speculation but I reckon there must be nearly 1000 of them over here.

If you give them about three years they should be more on the market

Company cars are usually kept this long then they get shut.

Its usually only companys that buy 2.8 ( or very rich people with a petrol drink problem )

I've just changed my 2.3 to a 4 month old V6. I live in the East Midlands and was prepared to travel to find a decent one. In the end, the best place was Motors (Coalville) Ltd - Ford Dealer. They have several in at the moment ranging in price from

Thanks to all, Coalville seems to have the best range so I'll probably end up getting one from them even though it's a long way from Bristol. All the good colours too- black, state blue etc!

"All the good colours" ???

I don't think they do any "bad" colours these days!

Ok there might be a lot of shades of silver ie Satin, Machine, Oyster and that sneaky misnamed 4th shade of sliver - Spruce Green, but the rest of the colours are all good'uns with the very possible exception of Netune Green (personally don't do green cars) and the once "must have" Radiant Red

Posted
Yes you are right Ian most of the colours are pretty cool these days. Perhaps I was thinking about my mate who has a new Mondeo estate in..Radiant Red! It looks wrong- acres of red with nothing to break it up. It needs something like those silver strips you used to get on Sierras etc, that ran front to rear.

eeek.

What about that horrible deep red/maroon colour.

Arrrghhhh, my eyes.....

I've had my V6 for just over a week now and am a bit concerned about something it's started to do since yesterday. I've noticed that when you put your foot down, there's a hesitancy for a moment and a second or so later, it shoots off. It's abit like the flat spots we used to get with those old carbs.

Anyone know what this might be causing this, considering vehicle is only 5 months old and had its first annual service before I took delivery a week ago.

Posted

It's probably aging too quickly - annual service after 5 months!!!

Hav you driven another V6? Is it a characteristic of the engine management system?

Posted

My V6 (nearly 2 years old, 17000) doesn't have any flat spots although pick up from idle is not instant. The engine management system does seem to keep the revs up for a few seconds after I take my foot off, delaying engine braking, which can be a bit alarming until you get used to it. I understand that it's a characteristic, perhaps something to do with emissions(?).

It has a healthy appetite for petrol; around 26mph for a mixture of around town and motorway cruising (85/90) with the aircon on almost all the time. It's difficult to drive it gently (or so my wife tells me).

Richmond - you're right about the revs carrying on a bit after releasing the throttle and that is due to emissions control - it helps burn the fuel cleanly.

However, this 'flat spot' is unusual that it's making it difficult to drive smoothly. It does it from idle only to lurch forward soon as it gets it act together but also at around 25 to 30 mph, it's affecting the auto gear change - at first it hesitates and then revs shoot up. Iv've also noticed that the tickover at standstill feels abit lumpy, more so when it's in drive with your foot on the brake.

I'll see how it goes but may have to pay Ford a call.

The lurching from idle sounds similar to my experience (I stall it rather than lurch forward, but same difference); I think I read on this forum that others have the same problem, if it is a problem. I suspect it may be another emission control feature. There's no flat spot at 25/30 or anywhere else and the tickover is fine. Mine's a manual, by the way.
