sepulchrave Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Hello, you may be able to fit a high pressure airline to the glow plug port and pressurise the cylinder enough to remove the valve springs. We used to feed string in throught the plug hole at BDC and then crank it up to keep the valves shut whilst changing the stem seals, but frankly it took ages to do and it needed two people. You should be able to get an adaptor for the airline. Quote
Guest neil_wiles Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Not sure but we used to use a special cranked lever in through the glow plug hole to hold the valves up, but on the 1.8 the holes are very small maybe a head off its not that difficult although it does mean re-timing and a new gasket but then a full head service would be better for the engine anyway. Brookydave Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 I did mine on a 1.8 ford diesel by ensuring the pistons were at tdc for valves seals to be changed, and using an adapted seat runner! to lever the valve caps down. Easy. Made a real difference. and really cheap for seals from Partco. No compressed air required.Good Luck Quote
mikej Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Hi don't know if this helps as i have never seen inside the head of a ford 1.8 diesel ! if the inside is the same setup as the old ford ohv escorts and fiestas ie camshaft and rockers etc then you do not have to remove the head .I have changed the valve stem seals on the ohv's several times without removing the head even when ford were adimmant that the head had to come off .There is a tool made by snap on i think and i have on . Its as simple to use as the cvh tool .Let me know the head setup on your diesel and i may be able to help you.mike ;) Quote
Brookydave Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 Totally different to CVH. Twin valve both vertical. Very hich comp ratio. CVH =compound as in CDave Quote
mikej Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 Brookydave i think you misunderstand mate or more likely i havn't explained it properly , i know its completely different to cvh i was simply saying its as easy a job to do ! you mention modding a seat runner to do yours ? well this tool works on the same principle at tdc it allows you to compress the value cap/spring so you can remove the collets, cap and spring etc ,replace stem seals and then refit. Its made by snap on and as i say if the diesel is similar to the ohv which from what you describe it is then this is the tool you need .Fords will tell you it cannot be done so they can charge you a fortune to remove the head it is all lies.mike....... :) Quote
