Galaxy 2.3 Ghia 03 plate

Today I removed the 5000 rds system, now I have a large hole.

I have the auto adapter kit including the blanking plate but don't want to use the blanking plate.

Someone here suggested speaking to Seat and getting hold of one of their cages, Seat haven't a clue what I'm talking about, they kept helpfully reminding me I had a Ford, ( it was a Faulty Towers moment ), does it actually exist, Seat don't seem to think so.

I'm adapting a plastic double din cage, ( the bottom half is a cubby hole ) but I need to get a fixing on the cage.

I have an idea, is it posible to remove the top cup holders with out removing the facia panel?

If I had to remove the facia panel, how would I do so?

Easy to remove cupholders - when you have done it once already

Open the cupholder, get a flat bladed screwdriver into the opening, press down the spring clip that holds the mounting in place in the top centre of the cupholder. Hey presto :D

Once cupholders are out it should reveal a screw in the top centre of each of the cupholder spaces - unscrew both of these and the screw at the back of the fascia cage and the whole thing should lift out (assuming you have already disconected the switches and labelled the cables - be particularly careful of front and rear heated screen switches as the cables fit either but the functionality is different). You also have to remove the air-con controller before removing this fascia ( black flat surround lifts off once you get a fingernail between the surround and the display to reveal 4 screws, easily accessible ).

Once you have a loose facia cage you can wave it in front of the parts man to illustrate your queries :D

Seats cage is double din and black, Fords in Din and 3/4 and silver (except when Sat Nav is fitted) . Switchgear for the black double din cage is different as well, but I think the Ford sitchgear will fit at a pinch.

Thank you Gadgetoid very usefull information, but I'm slightly confused now.

When I removed the 5000 unit I was left with a large hole surounded by plastic, ( is this what you refer to as the facia cage)?, at the back of which I can see a bolt/screw with a star head.

Are you also saying if required that Ford do a din & 3/4 cage that fits in to the facia cage?

Is that a Ford part or could I get one off the auction site?

Finaly, would you know, if I remove the cup holders, ( room will be tight I know ), if I could put two flat head screws/bolts through the bottom of the cup holder holes in to the existing facia cage without it interfearing with the eventual operation of the cup holders, what do you reckon?

Yeh I know Matt, but think of all the times they've hauled you of bed in time for work or school. :D

The facia cage is what I call the plastic silver painted construct that sits in the centre console. It contains the aircon controls and the 5000 radio system. The radio void is a din + 3/4 opening - the large black hole you now have with a single torx screw at the back.

If you want to change to proper double din opening then you can remove the entire silver fascia and replace it with the black surround, usually only used in Galaxy's for the Sat Nav system. It is also the standard fit fascia for the Alhambra's and Sharans.

To remove the silver fascia you have to remove Radio + aircon controls + all switchgear + both cupholders, then undo 3 torx screws - one at the back that you can see now plus one each at the top centre of the cupholder holes (only visible when you remove them)

Good luck
