I was checking all the wiring in the gaitors in the doors, rear passenger door same side as drivers found this yellow and red wire broken..some is in the gaitor itself and i cant reach it..the bit you see is from the door,

What is this wire, the copper filaments are bare and so are the ones in the gaitor,

How dangerous is this when car is running?

what can i do to fix it?

How do i get to the rest of the wire in the gaitor?

Thanks for any help

Maz.

Just had a quick look...

The red/yellow wire runs between the window switch 'up' contacts and the control module.

The broken end in the door is connected to the switch, and will be voltage free if the switch is not operated. The broken end in the car is connected to the 'Multifunction' module and might be a 'live' feed or might be earth feed, I can't tell... Do you have a multi-meter or a bulb and two bits of wire? Then you can see if there's any voltage there...

I can show you how to do a proper electrically safe repair, I would come and do it for you but you are a LONG way from me (Cambridgeshire), if you are interested I can post a list of things you need to buy to repair it properly and I can take some pics for you - just let me know.

Best of luck either way.

Assuming it is 'live', if you can insulate the bare end of the wire in the car it'll be safe until you can make a proper fix. Unfortunately, to reach the wiring you'll have to have the B-pillar trim off and maybe carpets up - the wiring loom won't have any slack in it.

Please be careful! Car batteries have enough amps to melt metal, let alone set a fire. Disconnect the battery before you start work.

Sorry, but I'm about the leave the country until Thursday... I hope others can assist.

Vanbursta could be your man!

if you can see the other end then you might be able to clamp an in line conector on the end,add a piece of wire and do the same to the other end and wrap all in insulation tape?

Yep ... agree with Gregers. Removing B pillar trim and Carpet seems very much worst case scenario. judging by the wire we can see in the picture, once the other end of the gaitor is removed there should be enough there to do something with to re-connect it

greggers has obviolsly learnt this bodging on the zaffy forum ^_^  , we dont want mo4 doing this now she studying for her spanners  solder it then heat shrink or insulating tape as a last resort

Ok..been doing some thinking.

Now this wire i am assumeing is a live feed wire to the window switch, that being so..then the two ends with bared filaments will be trying to pass a currant.now for now..im going to get some tape for now and tape the two ends up..then im going to try and get to the r4est of the wires to check them.....id rather be safe than sorry just incase any more are split..im going to do this on all the doors if i can...

Off to get some proper tape as ive only got selotape at the mo.

and...because of this broken wire, would that in effect stop the other rear passenger window working aswell?as they both stopped working at the same time.?

anyway, will check those wires aswell.

Ah well, thats the day taken care of!.I was going to try and fix the front panel..but wires superceed that!

will let you know how i get on checking them all and taping if needs be.

thanks,

anadin take a chill pill your giving me a headache  i was only giving a quick repair so as not to take up the carpets and everything else that would need to be removed,i do agree about the soldering and heat shrink method as been covered years ago,i think m m sugested this years ago when covering the wires round the rear hatch

for your info the zafy forum only has about 5 members as its a relativley new forum but(trying not to tempt fate)ive never owned a car that seems to be as reliable as the zafy, even though i could park it inside a galaxy

regards gregers

well..now got another prob..

i broke the clips on the connector that goes into the door.oops!thought id popped them all but hadnt.

Are you talkiing about the yellow clips that hold the door card on or something else?

you know where the red/yellow wire is poking out in my pic?out of the hole in the door?..well...the connector/rubber bit in round thing..that has i think 3 clip thingies....i broke one of the clip thingies that you have to press in..i was a bit overzealous at pressing it in and it ids now naffed, the round connector thing now wil not clip properly into place.

Am in wilts im afraid danyoda...thank you for the offer.....much appreciated..but im an independant lassie and would like to try it myself. <_<
