El Dingo Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 Someone will be tempted to say 'drive on the right'... :( Seriously though, beware when you've just filled up with petrol, put a can of soft drink in the cup-holder, kids are bickering in the back... Have a look on the AA web site, there's good plain advice about driving in France. Quote
anadin Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 drive as the french do ; arrogant, unconsiderate, partially drunk, and take no notice of indicators, you'll be fine :( Quote

MJR yep , was in the south ,i was kipping on a bench ,the wife an kids in the car, and heard them creaping towards the car , had powerful torch and baseball bat , kept the torch on them and woke everone else up, then exited quick if we stop now for a snoooze i find the fuel services are safer Quote
AndeeeH Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 There is a 24hr ELF petrol station just off junc. 2 of the A26. Its mainly a HGV station but there are car pumps to the left of the shop, very useful for the last/first fill-up. Agree with earlier comments about the rest areas and service stations. The 'aires' are a definate no-no for overnights but the service stations are OK. Watch out for the nasty kink in the A26 where it crosses the A16. The first ticket barrier on the A26 has a machine on the right for UK drivers but none of the rest do.A string of cars coming the opposite way flashing their lights usually means a radar trap or you haven't adjusted your lights for driving on the right.Dont change to French time until you arrive at your destination. (Psycologically you will be an hour less tired). Most of all have a great time. :( Andy. Quote

Guest MATT jr Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 did you see the power rangers travelling at brake-neck speeds between the traffic in Paris? MJR Quote
norwichbluenose Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 drive as the french do ; arrogant, unconsiderate, partially drunk, and take no notice of indicators, you'll be fine :o I have never had any trouble with French Drivers they are usaully very good on Motorways. If they are overtaking they leave the indicators on until the move is finished (sometimes they overtake 5/6 cars at once with the indicators on). Be careful in small towns as they have some different rules at junctions and roundabouts. be careful when coming up to Paris lots of police and speed cameras (you get done and they can now send the fine to you in Britain and take you through the courts as well) Quote
