shelbournes Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 Once again ...help needed1996 ford (bloody) galaxy 2.0i L n reg Still got this car ...don't know whyanyway I have a problem with the electric windowswhen you press the down buttons on the driversdoor the passenger window and drivers window goes downwith no problemsBUT when you press the up buttons on the drivers side or passenger sidenothing happens You have to close the windows by turn the keyin the lock when the doors closed and they will go up then I have checked the switch and there is defiantly nothing wrong with that I have recently fixed a lock problem so I could have done something wrong thenbut have traced all the connections and they all seam to be fine What I really would like to know iswhich relay runs the windows (if there is one)or any other suggestions to a cause thanks for all your help in advanceking regards to you all shelbournes Quote
greg_68 Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 Usual suspects areBroken wires in the wiring loom at door gaiters Switches, (does the passenger door side work ok? How do you know switches are definitely ok?)When you say the passenger side do you mean the passenger switch on the drivers side or the one on the passenger door. The module for windows is under the passenger seat, well known for water ingress. Is it unlikely to be a relay if they work in the up direction? The fact that you had the door card off (presumably) does suggest that something has been disturbed since you did the lock. Have they actually worked ok since doing the work? Quote
NikpV Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 I have a similar problem - rear passenger window will only go up on switch not with key on global closing unless the loom to the door is wiggled - there is a broken wire in there somewhere but have not had time to fix yet. The wires for global opening/closing appear to be different than for normal operation - which was a surprise to me. Quote
shelbournes Posted October 6, 2006 Author Report Posted October 6, 2006 thanks so muchthe double switch on the driver side only allows the windows to go downthe single switch on the passenger side only lets the windows goes down too so none of the 3 up switches work (ie 2 drivers side 1 on passenger) before replacing the lock handle they had intermittant faultsbut now they have gone completly I have checked under the passenger seat and it is bone dry so I don't think the problem is there the wiring in the drivers door all appears to be o.k.the switches have all been tested with a multi meter and all pins are workingI will try to work out which two wires run the down button on the doors andcheck those wires individually does anyone know whether there is a relay (I.E> which number) for the windowsas I feel it coulg possibly be a fault there Thanks again for your help and support mark Quote
NikpV Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 had a quick look at TIS andf cant find separate relays (not always easy to trace wiring with TIS) it appears that the windowmotors are incoporated in what Ford call a 'Multifunction unit' given that the problem was intermittent before you had the door card off and now wont work I am even more strongly suspicious of a break in the wires inside the insulation (given the age of the car as well) Quote
