paulm Posted March 17, 2003 Report Posted March 17, 2003 My Galaxy is a 95 2.0L GLX which has developed an intermittent starting problem. I have narrowed it down to someting to do with Relay 3 in the fuse box, which according to the owners maual, is a power supply relay. When the car won't start, moving the relay slightly brings it back to life, strange thing is that if you remove the relay the car still starts. Anybody know what this relay does or any other ideas? By the way after reading about cruise control problems on this site I fixed mine with a new piece of rubber tube to the unit behind the nearside headlamp. Its been to five Ford main dealers had three new control units to fix the problem each time it only lasted a few days before failing, the first dealer actually admitted they had no idea what was wrong with it ! Guest SA Intruder Posted March 17, 2003 Report Posted March 17, 2003 Seems to be called Invert Relay. Do you have Climate Control? Quote
paulm Posted March 18, 2003 Author Report Posted March 18, 2003 Yes I do and it seems to be working ok, do you know what this invert relay does ? Quote
Guest Andy Posted March 18, 2003 Report Posted March 18, 2003 My 95 galaxy did the same thing it turned out to be relay number 30 it controls the ignition and injection ,luckerlymy pal works at a ford dealer and a quick phone call and he told me i would find several dry solder joints ,and yes you guessed it i did , i promptly resoldered them and whoosh i was off again, a few days later Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted March 18, 2003 Report Posted March 18, 2003 Your looking for K4 and/or K108. One powers up the ECU, the other powers up the fuel pump. Does your car have R or K references? Check by substitution. Quote
Danny Boy Posted March 18, 2003 Report Posted March 18, 2003 This is all too complicated for me!!! :( Quote
paulm Posted March 18, 2003 Author Report Posted March 18, 2003 :( :D Well what can I say, I took out the relay opened it up and sure enough a couple of the joints looked a bit suspect, I have resoldered them and its started 20 times every time and no fiddling about with relays. Thanks for your help. This fault has been coming and going for months and its been to the Ford main dealer for it. I must say I'm not impressed with Ford dealers this car has had literally thousands spent on it by the warranty company, although I had to pay for the diagnostics and I wonder just how many of the faults they found were genuine. :( :D Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 General concensus is that Ford Main dealers are cock. Which has been debated.... Quote
