mumof4 Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 I have a problem..well..3 actually.. 1. The parking sensors work when they want to..sometimes they work more often they dont. 2. My climate control panal back light isnt working when sensors arent but is when sensors are. 3. Same with the inner tail light..went last night whilst out..but when i got home and checked it..it was working along with everything else. Now..ive had a looksie at the relay30/27 from the FAQs..and before i declare the car off road whilst i dismantle the car and rebuild it finding it, could there be anything else that i could try first? thanks. maz. You could try the brake light switch - as this does sound rather wierd - or you could do a search  :( Quote
Andrew T Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 Let's deal with the tail light first, do you mean the inner rear 5w is playing up leaving the outer bulb (i.e the 21/5w stop tail light bulb) on?. From where the wire plugs into the tail light cluster, the bulbs are supplied with power from a subststantial pressed metal circuit board which would be unlikely to develop problems, so if one bulb is on and the other off I'd suggest a duff inner bulb. Now you're other problem sounds a bit like I'm having at the moment. My tailgate wiring loom has chaffed where it goes into the tailgate allowing the Heated rear window to backfeed into the number plate light and reversing light circuit. Amonst many other problems I am currently having I find that when I select reverse it illumines the CC panel as yours does. If you've got a crossfeed betwwn two circuits it's going to be a sod and half to find unless it's in the tailgate wiring boot so I suggest that is where you start. Quote
mumof4 Posted October 2, 2006 Author Report Posted October 2, 2006 the inner light wasnt working at all last night but the other was..it is the offside one. Now..can i add whilst im still searching..that when the parking sensors dont work..you press the button and nothing..doesnt even illuminate orange like it should..no beeps..nothing.nary a sound.but then say 15/20 mins later..or longer..it may work....even switching car off then on wont get them to work whrn they arent working.. the cc panel back light only works when the sensors do...other wise it still works...still flashes tho like it has done for months. now..as for wiring looms..i have to know what im looking at....im not allowed to touch unless i know what im doing as last thing i want is to render car unusable, this time of yr i cant afford to put in a garage.....so its diy im afraid.i have today to learn what to check for so i have all day tomorrow to check as other half off work. Ok..found nothing in search that describes my sensors as that is what i searched under..went back all the way to the beginning.when mine dont work..you get nothing..then all of a sudden they will work. Andrew T Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 I think the reverse parking senors are triggered by the selection of reverse gear. Next time you find the sensors aren't working get someone to check if you're reversing lights are working. Meanwhile have a look at the tailgate wiring by wriggling the wiring boot off on the tailgate end and push it as far as it will go towards the body and look for any cracks or splits in wires. Quote
mumof4 Posted October 2, 2006 Author Report Posted October 2, 2006 call me thick but i need a picture to work from....otherwise i wont know what im looking at.:( Quote
Andrew T Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 Open the tailgate, top RH corner near the hinge there is a convoluted rubber boot that takes the wiring into the tailgate.I won't you call you thick on this occasion, I admire your determination to solve your own problems. Quote
mumof4 Posted October 2, 2006 Author Report Posted October 2, 2006 ok..had a look..load of red/yellow....green etcc wires..little i could see of them they looked fine..all wrapped in black sticky tape stuffcould see a few cms of them..separated them as much as i could gently..could see no splits or cracks. Andrew T Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 Back to the drawing board then............. Quote
Bigjeeze Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 Pics are too bloody late I know- but as I got soaked taking them you have to see them!! Quote
mumof4 Posted October 2, 2006 Author Report Posted October 2, 2006 thanks bigj..very much appreciated. :( Quote
Bigjeeze Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 thanks bigj..very much appreciated. :( If it's not the wiring looms in the rear door then it might be worth looking at the brake light switch. Just make sure it works. Also check the actual bulbs - maybe a crossed filament is cuasing an issue. It does all come back to the wiring in the door though!!. Did you look at both rubber boots? (mine has two - as I think yours wil) it may be only one set of wires is damaged. Quote
mumof4 Posted October 2, 2006 Author Report Posted October 2, 2006 yup checked both rubber thingies..the other has a tube in it which i am presumeing is the washer hose for rear window. Right..just did a school run.got in the car and switched key to position where electrics on..sensors worked.Turned car on and they didnt..drove a bit then stopped and put car into reverse and reversed a couple of feet..put sensors on and they worked untill i parked up and turned car off.when got back in car and turned it on they didnt work.untill i reversed.couldnt see if cc was back lit and couldnt see if reverse lights worked though they did earlier. crossed filament??? wheres the brake light switch? Quote
mumof4 Posted October 2, 2006 Author Report Posted October 2, 2006 It is ALL the sensors im on about..and when they dont work there is NO sound from the switch.not even a click. Quote
Bigjeeze Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 Well whatever it is it is electrical! damaged cables is still favourite. Crossed filament - this can sometimes occur in bulbs like stop/tail that have two filaments (the littel metal coil that actually glows) whereby one breaks and falls onto the other. It's worth a look and very cheap to do. Ask someone to look at your brake lights reverse lights etc - you can check the reverse lights by leaving the ignition on - the engine off and in reverse gear - then go and look. The brake light switch is the one up underneath the dash by the brake pedals - bit difficult to get at. Anyway - that should keep you going for a few minutes. Quote
suzuki91 Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 to get to the brake light switch you need to contort you body under the drivers footwell and look up from the brake pedel. there are two plastic switches there, one for the brake and the other one i cant remember ?to get to them open the fuse cover under the dash pull off the cover, remove the 6 screws to remove the trim. i oiled mine up and it now works fine. Quote
mumof4 Posted October 3, 2006 Author Report Posted October 3, 2006 well..i thought they were..been having a gander at the wiring..and just checking all connections..pulled off front bumper and had a gander at all the wires there...also checked whatever wires i could get to without dismantling everything. then they worked....for a bit... now..totally kaput..nowt.nada..nothing.not a beep not a tone nothing.switch doesnt work..nothing. so..i think i might have made it worse. :D but good news....didnt find any splits in any wires. :D so....next step i think..is to check switch.will take HU out..then take it from there...will just have to see what i have to dismantle to get to it.,,,flying by the seat of my pants here.. Quote
