Guest Eatontoomanygalaxys Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 My compressor has failed and it looks like bearing damage as it has melted and snapped the belt. Has anybody put a shorter belt on and bypassed the comp. just to get going? Can it be done? Quote
Guest VR6! Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 IIRC yes it can be done! but you will have to remove the offending pully/compressor as it's in the way, if you look at the diagrams for the belt routing or the AC and non AC models you can see the problem! check out the pictures in the Haynes manual to be sure Quote
Guest Eatontoomanygalaxys Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 Thanks for the reply. Would the tensioner arrangement be the same with or without aircon? is it really just a shorter belt? Quote
Guest Eatontoomanygalaxys Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 I bought a none aircon aux belt removed the compressor (the clutch assembly has dropped to bits) and tried to fit the belt. It is not long enough! Phoning round for a compressor now. My gal is a 2.0 but the pulley arrangement etc is the same as the 2.3 arrangement in the haynes manual ???????? Quote
Guest Eatontoomanygalaxys Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 Back on the road. Bought a clutch pack and the Ford man kindly set the air gap on the plate. One question, the ac system is de-gassed should the plate engage on the pulley when the aircon is switched on as it is not doing so. I am wondering if there is a pressure sensor and it will when re gassed ? Quote
strouf Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 The compressor clutch will not engage , to protect the system from runing without gas. When regassed, it sould be fine . Quote
