Hi everybody :D ,

First post on the Forum. I've got a 1996 2.0 GLX that has given me 4 years of trouble free motoring. However, it has developed an intermittent fault that I hope someone can shed some light on.

It started while cruising on the motorway last week, doing around 70-75mph when it suddenly started to feel lumpy with a loss of power. Was able to drive thru it by putting my foot down a bit. When I got off the motorway (5 miles later) I noticed the tickover was around 1200rpm. Blipping the accelerator didn't bring it down to 800rpm. Later stopped the car and restarted an hour later, tickover at 800 rpm and return journey was as normal. Since then have suffered lots of kangerooing, stalling after starting, high tickover and lumpy ride - but not all the time.

CAT is only 12 months old and the car has been serviced regularly.

Anybody got any ideas ??

Any advice would be appreciated.

Check all vac pipes for splits. Check all induction side for same.

Check PCV valve for operation

Are plug leads A1?

Make sure all underbonnet loom connectors are sound, clean and dry. Make sure no chafing has occured. Check all earth points from engine loom - remove clean and remake.

Finally, suspect the coil pack (DIS)
