Roof Rails

Firstly i would like to say a big thankyou to KevinP who supplied myself with a good write-up of how he went about fitting the proper Roof rails to his Galaxy that did not have them factory fitted.

 

I too wanted to fit the proper roof rails to my Galaxy, more for looks than for the practicality of being able to fit the roof bars to them.

Hi, I can't understand why they couldn't give you a price, but I can understand why the wanted the body shop to do the job as improper fitting would affect the 6 year body corrosion warranty. I wouldn't want an engine technician for instance to do work on the body - unless of course he was properly trained. In saying that, I would have done what you have done and fitted them myself, and made sure that all pierced edges were properly painted and assembly water sealed.

I have purchased the cross bars (Ford part), and have used them on my previous Galaxy's, but the last time I used them one of the locks on the clamps fell out due to a broken circlip. Once out, the tumblers and minute springs fell to the ground. With remarkable luck I was able to retrieve them all but cannot re-assemble them. I have approached the Ford dealer parts dept to be told that the lock is not a service part and neither is the complete clamping block on the end of the bar. The only way to overcome the lock problem is to purchase the whole bar pack again - not a very satisfactory solution!

Still I won't give up yet, I am writing to Ford to see what they say - I have had results before. I will let you know how I get on with a future posting.

Axel - glad you managed to fit the rails OK. Wish I had had a cutting chart for the rubber strips, took me 3 goes to get it right. You obviously got a good price from e.bay. Makes a Galaxy look much nicer doesn't it! B)
