sepulchrave Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 danny, your faith in the auto electrician is touching, have you checked the immobiliser? I still think there is a problem with the HT circuit but I'm scared to say anything (( )) Quote
Guest danny.s Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 danny, your faith in the auto electrician is touching, have you checked the immobiliser? I still think there is a problem with the HT circuit but I'm scared to say anything (( )) Immoboliser ey !! thats a new angle, lets see how much money i can throw into that one :( Only joking m8. The remote central locking doesn't work so have always done it the old fasioned way, when locked the little light thingy flashes as usual. I hav'nt noticed any change in its pattern/sequence and i dont have a spare key. Are there any other tel tale signs that the immobiliser is the fault ??.As far as the HT circuit is concerned i'm willing to try anything at this point even if it is covering old ground,Having 1 8yr old 1 2yr old and 2 8mnth old (twins) and only a ford focus to get them about in i'm getting desperate !!. Questions : (laugh if you want) do all six plugs need to spark for the engine to fire up ?? because only one plug and lead has been checked so far.And if the cam sensor had not failed then why did the diagnostics report a fault with it? i saw this with my own eyes.In my position what would you do next ? bearing in mind money is limited. Thanks Quote
dipsomaniac Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 i would have thought that the auto electrician would have checked the immobiliser. have you tried the spare key? all cylinders do not need to spark to run the engine. i have driven mine on 3 but it is not advisable as you have a lot of unburnt fuel entering the cat. can you re-cap on what you have changed and whether it was old or a new replacement? what else did the auto electrician check and were there any other faults logged? Quote
NikpV Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 . have you tried the spare key? he says he doesn't have a spare key ;) the door led should flash a code if there is a problem with the immobiliser, trouble is I can't find a reference for the codes  Quote
dipsomaniac Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 sorry, didn't read your previous post properly. according to my manual, when the inigition is turned on the door led will flash slowly for one minute or stay on continuously if there is a problem with the immobiliser. i always thought that a car will start with an imobiliser problem but then switch off?? mumof4 Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 courtesy of VR6! :IIRC if the crank sensor is duff the engine wont start as there is no back up/alternative sensor to take it's place! where as with the cam sensor the engine will run but badly as IIRC the fuel injection system no longer works sequentially and the timings retarded to cope with this! also IIRC if the crank sensor signal isnt registered by the PCM it after 5 seconds it shuts down the fuel pump Quote
Guest danny.s Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 Thanks for that Mumof4  Going back to the Immobiliser theory for a moment . when locked, the little light on the door flashes quite fast about once every second, When i put the key in the ignition and turn it one klick the light goes on and stays on for roughly 5 seconds before going out. I have read in the hand book that this indicates a fault or at least i think thats what it said. Is this ringing bells with anyone ??Is the only answer to get a new key and try that ? if so any ideas on prices ?The sparky is coming to have another look tomorow. Quote
seatkid Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 for crying out loud!..... Either get a brand new coilpak fitted or get a new car...... Quote
dipsomaniac Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 are the chances of it being the coilpack = to aus winning the ashes? Quote

Guest danny.s Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 The sparky got it to fire up, it wasn't pulling enough juice from my mates battery.the engine sounded awfull like spoons in a tumble drier it then died, tried to start up again and engine seized.I think its time to admit defeat, I'm gonna list it on e-bay and hope someone out there wants a dead Gal.You never know i might get enough money back to buy a weekly bus pass. Thanks for all your advice.RegardsDan Quote

Time to cut my losses !!Its funny, although i've had nothing but trouble with her it hasn't put me off Galaxy's altogether and would have another one (maybee not a v6 though) :) The sparky got it to fire up, it wasn't pulling enough juice from my mates battery.the engine sounded awfull like spoons in a tumble drier it then died, tried to start up again and engine seized.I think its time to admit defeat, I'm gonna list it on e-bay and hope someone out there wants a dead Gal.You never know i might get enough money back to buy a weekly bus pass. Thanks for all your advice.RegardsDan hi dan really sorry to hear about this m8.. hope u sort something out m8 :) Thanks m8 Quote
dipsomaniac Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 was hoping you would sort it out dan - did the sparky not have a clue what the problem was??? sounds like a major component failure Quote

jvernon Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 danny.s Is the car now listed on eBay? Did the engine run OK before this problem or have you never had it running properly? If you have had it running properly...does it have the dreaded cam chain rattle? Regards,James Quote

dipsomaniac Posted December 11, 2006 Report Posted December 11, 2006 is that genuine miles dan? if so, that is very low for year. that engine should see at least 200k (as long as oil is changed and not raced) before any major engine wear/damage. Quote
