Belldarr Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Hi All, I was just taking my air filter out of my Mk1 V6 Galaxy and noticed that one of my pipes (breather?) running along nect to the filter unit has a broken t-piece section, the t-piece itself looks likes a smaller pipe (4mm) branching off a length of slightly larger pipe (6mm), with the engine running the smaller pipe is sucking air and if you stickyour finger over the end of it the engine idle seems to change.....thelargerpipe looks like a breather maybe that runs from the top of the engine to somewhere round the back of the engine. I hope from that description someone can tell me what it does and if it is having any effect on my engine performance and economy? And is it a ford dealer only part? Regards Darren. Quote

I have exactly the same thing broken on my V6, does anybody know what this pipe and T peice is? Quote
dipsomaniac Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 (edited) probably EVAP, it is around that area and returns unburnt fuel to the block for combustion. will be a main dealer (vw, ford or seat) part. Edited March 2, 2007 by dipsomaniac Quote
28vr6 Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 My Gal had this pipe broken so to the box of copper pipe offcuts and dug out some tubing trimmed to length then drilled a hole, now for the 'T' piece, chamfered the tube end to roughly the diameter of the internal diameter of the tube drilled earlier. Mated them together applied some 60/40 solder - jobs a good un :) Quote

As a point to note to others, I found the old pipe very difficult to extract from the tubes, and disintegrated when pliers were used to pull them out. Be very careful to ensure all the bits are removed from the pipes (I sucked on them to get all the crud out). You don't really want bits of plastic running round the fuel system! Quote
