kfiers Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 First of all; i wish to thank all the members of this wonderfull forum for the info i've already found in here.I was driving an 90 ps gal 1996 for more then 5 years and now bought a mkII 2004 130ps 6 speed, what a difference...What i notice now on this car is; that when the engine is cold and i fire it up there's a big cloud of light grey smoke comming out of the exhaust (not aux heater) which smells like unburnt fuel. The glowplugs are working fine, checked that already. Cambelt is changed at the local Ford workshop about 9000km ago i can find some topics on the same matter, but no answers... Quote
anadin Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 hi and welcome , there is no mention of last service assuming air/fuel filter recent, an injector cleaner may help , although a bit of smoke on start up is acceptable , if you think its excessive , it may be your pump timing out a taj, they can be advanced or retarded , although i would seek a profesional opinion on that failing that there could be a genie in your tail-pipe , make a wish , if you win the lottery , i'm on half, lol Quote
kfiers Posted September 23, 2006 Author Report Posted September 23, 2006 Thanks for the reply, and yes all filters are replaced, even with an injector cleanerAccording to the bill of the dealer anywayI've talked to them yesterday and next week we will check out if there are any fault codes in the cari'm thinking now that the timing is out, due to last cambelt replacementI'm not a complete newbie in the mechanical area....(On my last car, the mk1 gal 90ps tdi, i've replaced the evaporator in the IP in about 7 hours; not bad i assume...) But in this case, yes the big cloud of smoke is UNACCEPTABLE Quote
wood73 Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 does it take abit longer to start when it is cold? but start fine with little or no smoke when it is warm, if so it could be a slight fuel leak where it draws in air when standing, this usually clears after about 30 seconds or less. seatkid Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 Light grey smoke = incomplete combustion. Either due to worn/caked injectors - but this would be seen everytime you floor the throttle from idle, or timing is out as you say due to sloppy cambelt replacement. Quote
