Mk1 Wiper Linkage

Half hour ago it was p***ing down, so being the conciderate father, went to pick the kids up from school rather than making them walk in the downpour. Jumped in the Gal and picked my youngest up without problem. Got halfway to the secondary school for the other two and what happens? The drivers side wiper stops working. I make it to the school with next to zero visibility and get out in the rain to look at the problem. It took no time at all to spot that the linkage had dropped off the wiper arm. I figured, ball joint, just snap it together again, wrong.... I put it together again and with all 3 kids on board start driving home. 3 seconds later the linkage drops off again and I tiptoe home with no visibility again. I have tried two or three times now to putit back together, but everytime it just drops off again. What am I doing wrong? Is there a pin or coller of some sort that might be missing? Or do I take it to the garage and come back a nifty lighter?
