seatkid Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 very true :)So there are another 51 Gooners at least? Well if he goes to a meet hes got 52 rounds to get in at least  I just don't want this publicity / fundraising thing lead to the forum being another Seatcupra.net (i.e subscription) or even Briskoda (full of useless pikey mods and self congratulory posts) or completely overrun with adverts, popup or otherwise. Fundraising needs admin, admin costs money, and this can lead to a viscous circle. And any fundraising needs open accounting. Paying for hosting costs etc is where we should stop IMO. Lets face it, there are only at most a couple hundred active members at any time. Spread over the UK (and Europe) - chances of more than a spurious meet are low. And the average Shalaxy owner is a not obsessed with his car - its not a performance  car or a thing of outstanding beauty. They have families and are not looking to talk in the pub about MAFs or 25 inch wheels or whatever, they want to keep their cars going properly at a reasonable cost in the face of indifferent/incompetent service from dealers. This may well change when the (original) Shalaxy becomes a classic in another 15-20 years time... More important than all this will be provision for MkIII Galaxy/SMAX owners - they need a completely seperate section as we'll get no end of chains changed for cambelts before they realise.... Quote
greg_68 Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Personally I think the fund raising idea whilst being good in principle maybe needs to slow down a little and more thought less haste needs to be applied. Questions I would ask are: What exactly do you need funds for? How much are they likely to cost? Are they warranted given that only 3 turned up to the first meet, is this likely to ever be much more? Why do we need to advertise the site and attract new members, whats wrong with the natural turnover of members that exists at present. Is it really that important that the numbers grow? All the actual needs of the fund raising may already be available via forum members. Members have already produced the flyer for free, maybe whatever else is needed can be sought free or cheaply as well. If at the end of the day you do really need funds I would personally look no further than Ebay.Everyone has something at home that needs to be got rid of, get it on Ebay and send the funds of to mum. You only need 20 of you (there are 21 on the members interested in meeting list) to collect a tenner (easy on Ebay) and you have Quote

gregers Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 for some reason and i dont know why there are quite a few people on this forum with multiple identities,so 4000 members really isnt 4000 members,it would be intresting (if it could be done)to find out exactly how many members there really is,thats my point. mumof4 Posted September 25, 2006 Author Report Posted September 25, 2006 It can be done..but would take too much time to do. Quote

I have three ID's (and the mods are aware)but I think I am in the minority - I think you'll find that most people aren't as weird as me and are just ordinary members. Even if there are fewer than 4000 what number would make you happy? Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 so whats happening with funding? MJR Quote
gregers Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 you pick a number then im sure ill be happy bigjeeze Quote
seatkid Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 Even if there are fewer than 4000 what number would make you happy? ;) Come on now! I read most posts and its always the same few (hard core) members.....If you look at the posts in the the last month - then look at the members involved - then you get the number of active members - maybe 100 at most I reckon.
