  1. Hi, Just thought I would add my penny's worth. 1. If it is a Forg Galaxy of any model of any year it WILL have an air bag. 2. You must NOT attempt to disconnect the airbag unless to take certain precautions beforehand otherwise you or someone else is possibly going to get seriously hurt/killed. 3. You obviously have no idea what you are doing and I would advise you to take it to a garage and NOT just nip to the local scrappy as you are likely to end up with a disabled vehicle and no way of re-assembling the steering wheel. 4. I only advise this because you DO NOT KNOW what has given way and it could be more serious than you first think and on dismantling it you may find you cannot re-assemble it. 5. If you do decide to have a go yourself good luck but please disconnect the battery and WAIT at least 20 minutes to allow the airbag system to discharge. I have carried out extensive work/repairs on cars now and in the past but whenever it comes to airbags I leave well alone and always return my car to the main agent/competent independent garage regardless of the cost.
  2. Hi, My 03 1.9 tdi Sharan obviously knows I have joined this forum as tonight it has decided to throw yet another wobbler. I have read many threads on the problems associated with the alternator pulley and the special tools required to remove it. Tonight I became aware of the most god awful screech/rumble from under the bonnet, had a damn good idea what it was but was very suprised when I released the drive belt tension to have the alternator pulley fall off! The bearings had completely collapsed and compacted into itself, the cage showing multiple fracture marks, and had shattered. Just a note to anyone out there if you see red dust on the outside of the alternator pulley, get it changed immediately as mine ejected red dust last week and the bearing was obviously running dry and must have been getting pretty hot. I dont need the special spline tool as there is no longer any part left to spin! and i'm going to hold the spline bit in a vice but does anyone know what tool and size fits the inner drive, is it a torque or a special. Many Thanks
  3. My local dealer had suggested that the boost valve in my turbo may be sticking, the engine went into limp home after accelerating hard onto a motorway. To repair "new turbo" required. Says there are no bits to lubricate, or service. Now as my car spends 99% of its life travelling round town and is driven for a max of 2 miles on each journey (3 times a day), never gets to half warm before being turned off, I wondered if it is possible to choke up the turbo and therefore when you give it a bit of welly on the motorway it has a fit as all the muck is blown out! and causes the engine to go into sulk home mode. Anyway gave it a good hard run for 60 miles, hard acceleration, quick deceleration etc and not a sulk. Anyone else suffered from this problem due to short runs The car 1.9 tdi sharan 2003 115bhp with 92,000 miles
  4. Hi, My steering wheel finish on my 1.9 tdi 03 Sharan has worn away and not only looks a mess but has been contaminated with diesel in the past. Can anyone advise me if the steering wheel off a golf Mk4 will fit as there never appear to be any Sharan ones for sale but plenty of Golf Mk4. Oh and how easy is it to change, DIY or leave it to the Main agent! only wary because of the air bag. Thanks in advance
  5. Hi, I have been advised by my main VW dealer that the slight lumpy running on idle I get when my 03 sharan 1.9 TDi is showing 1/8 warm is due to grease initially coming out of the dual mass flywheel. It is then thrown off by the spinning action and stops when the engine warms up slightly more. Here are the symptoms I gave them, start engine from cold set off with no vibrations, judders or anything Drive the car for about 1 mile, engine temp just beginning to register on bottom marker Sit at traffic lights, engine temp now showing 1/8 warm, now it begins to run ever so slightly lumpy (doesn't show on rev counter), but will rev cleanly up but can feel a slight lumpy running as the revs drop betwen 1200 and idle. Set off from lights, drive 100 yards hey presto car now running smooth as usual. Can someone give me their opinion on the main dealer explanation of this lumpy running, not convinced! Sharan has covered 92000 miles and once warmed up it doesnt repeat this lumpy running again. I personally suspected either the Maf or the temp sensor but the main dealer said they were ok! Thanks in advance for your opinion
