Thanks for the rapid response. I have checked and cleaned the ABS rings....All Ok. I had driven the car on the local estate, but not gone above 20mph. I have now done this and system has now reset..............Many Thanks. Much appreciated.

Hello All, My 1999 2.3 recently suffered a split rear break line & loss of fluid. I've replaced the pipes and bleed the system but the ABS light remains on on the dash. I've cleaned and tested the sensors. One of which was not giving a resistance reading..........therefore I replaced it. However the ABS light remains on. Do I have to use VAGCOM to re-set the error or activate a ABS pump brake bleed procedure? Your input would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Drive Shaft Removal Help.
n.peckdd replied to n.peckdd's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Yes.........the drive shaft is a Shaftech item part N/O VW145ALReManDriv. I've contacted their tech helpline 01212135438 and they said "that it's not an issue & to go for it"!!....so will trust their word on that. With regard to the bearing. I took the hub to my customary MOT station where the owner confirmed that everything should pull-up when back together & torqued. Thanks for your help. Paul. -
Drive Shaft Removal Help.
n.peckdd replied to n.peckdd's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks for the link much appreciated......... The shaft is now off & a replacement aquired, however the old shaft had a rubber (bump stop?) just after the outer CV joint. The new one does not. Will this be a problem? I've also replaced the wheel bearing while I'm half way there already. The new bearing is a FAG item, which being of cup & ball construction has some movement at the hub (without drive shaft fitted) is this normal? I'm hoping when everything is torqued up this "slop" will be taken up?? Many thanks Paul -
Hello All..........back again so soon, Can anyone help with how to remove the drive shaft from the gearbox? Haynes says lever it out!! Is this correct? Thanks, Paul.

Hello All, Can anybody confirm if sprung clips (flat type, not like the front) are standard fitment on a 1999 2.3 Galaxy rear caliper please? I've just bought and fitted new discs & pads & was offerd the clips at the time of purchase. None were fitted when I removed the old pads and those supplied don't look like they would fit!! Cheers, Paul

Thanks Paul, I've used jump leads connected as described & the motor spins up like a good un (not fitted to the car). Seems like I'm getting the same effect as if using solenoid power only ie bendix out but not turning over -

Thanks for the very helpful & informative replies. I've ordered a TIS disc & bought a new battery (just to be sure). Will use jump leads as temporary earth leads & will let you know how I get on. No this starter although new has not turned the car over............ but it is the second one I've tried with the same symptoms (took the 1st one back when it crossed my mind to scrap the old Gal, but couldn't bring myself to do it, without a final rescue attempt!! Thanks for the advice. Its a manual gearbox model. What is TIS please? I'm working from the Haynes circuit diagrams (not very specific). R27( Fuel supply) & R26 (Starter power relay) in the handbook (Marked 30 & 100) have been replaced. Starter motor is brand new bosch item & battery is fine (even tried) jump leads from the wife's car! Still the starter only fires the bendix gear without actually turning the starter with any momentum?? -

Forgot to mention its a 1999 2.3 petrol -
Hello All, Other than the battery & starter motor what would prevent the starter from turning over? I have access to all the relays with spares to swap but my new brand stater fails to turn over!!! Thanks in advance. Paul

Galaxy Squeaks & Squeals
n.peckdd replied to n.peckdd's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I'm getting 12.55 V across the battery. Jump leads connected to the starter causes the bendix gear to shoot out. No idea why I cant get it to turn over with the key though?? -

Hello Fellow starter suffers, I've been having start-up noises & running noises (in wet weather) on my 99 2.3 Ghia X for a while now. One noise a twitter from the Aux drive belt tensioner (wet noise) the other a squeal from the starter now & then. The tensioner was replaced when the bearing finally seized causing the plastic pulley to melt (designed that way so you cant just slip in a new bearing) the aux belt the goes loose and the power steering, charging etc all go down with it. Got the tensioner (because you cant just buy the pulley!! ) from CES for
