Had a similar problem when I had an Espace (before I was educated!!), we went to France and boy was it hot, then found when I got home that the hot/cold selector had jumped off the dog teeth so it showed cold when it was actually still on hot. Had to take the dash off which was a bit fiddly but I was able to re-seat the selector and could cool down again.
