  1. SORRY - POSTED IN MKII TECH SECTION IN ERROR!

    Greetings All,

Its been a many-awhile since I posted. Having replaced my 52 115 TDi Ghia with a new 140 TDCi Ghia back in 2010. All has been increadibly good with this vehicle, which is now well into the mid 40K's.

UNTIL NOW and maybe co-incident with the recent hot spell. It would appear that when the car gets hot under the sun - the Voice command stops working (at switch on) as does the H/F phone function. The phone book does upload but when you try and dial a number, a warning is displayed "No Link to Phone" or something close to that! When the car cools, everything fires up normally.

Anyone else had a similar experience with this faciltiy?

    TIA,

    PAUL

  3. I would agree that turning off ESP should have no effect, as you say its only monitoring the vehicle in normal conditions. What alerted me to try this was the reaction of other posts on other car owners websites. It could be a sort of placebo effect! but my Gal is producing consistently improved MPG since actively remembering to switch off ESP at the start of a LD journey. NB - ESP always "on" in wet or damp conditions though. I could try without switching ESP off but can I afford the extra diesel? :)
  4. Hi!,

The trip computer on the MK2 Gal has two memories. #1 Shows Average Fuel for trip and resets after (2Hrs?) and #2 shows a running average until reset. Does anyone know of a method to make the MK3 trip computer automatically reset after a trip or if there is a 2nd memory mode hidden away somewhere in the setups?

    Cheers!

  5. Galaxy 3 is definatley a much thirstier beast to the Galaxy 2!

Even with 240,000 miles on clock and all the seats in, my old Gal 1.9Tdi 115 could turn in an average 49-49mpg on a steady 70mph M/way cruise and around 42 at 80. This new 2.0 TDCi beast, well, 42mpg if I was lucky and dropping to 38ish at an 80 cruise.

I say was, because yesterday, en-route from Herts to the Wirral and back, I switched off ESP - whoa! the average mpg started to climb to 44-46mpg at 70 and dropped to around 43 at 80!

Has anyone else found better economy with ESP (Where fitted) switched OFF?

    Cheers!

  6. Greetings!

Having recently taken delivery of a 10 Plate Galaxy fitted with a TravelPilot FX. I was launced into the quest to find a user guide (not supplied). I quickly learnt that others were in the same boat.

Various links have been suggested including http://fordfcsd.wund...-%20Navigation/ This is correct, but to find the FX instructions, the option "CD Navigation" not " TravelPilot DX-EX" needs to be selected. The manual ,an 80 page .pdf covers both the CD-SD Navigation System and the Touch Screen variant.

    Cheers!

  7. Hi all, The fuel gauge in my 2001 Ford Galaxy 1.9TDi PS90 has never worked properly since I bought the car a couple of years ago. It generally reads full as soon as you turn the key what ever the amount of fuel, it will eventually drop to the correct reading after around 300 miles (but not always), sometimes it even reads correct when you turn the key,so long as there is no more than half a tank full.I have replaced the fuel tank sender unit for another but to no avail,it immediately read the same way as when the the old one was fitted.I could change the cluster but I have heard that may not stop the problem either, due to a known compatibility problem. the rest of the cluster works perfectly, its just this darn gauge!I have no choice but to fill the car every time so that I can reset the trip count to zero so as to know roughly how far I can get!

If any one has any fixes or info it would be very welcome :angry2: Cheers chaps

    Hi Darton,

Cant offer a fix but can offer membership to the same club! I have 52 1.9Tdi 115 and the gauge behaves in a similar fashion (since the warranty expired!). Sometimes it fails to register at all at switch-on. I find I can clear this occasionally by switching ingnition off and on again. I had the cluster checked by someone who has VAG.com, you can test all of the gauges with this ie Speed, Rev, Temp and Fuel. Mine checked out OK.

  8. Sorry about the late reply to your post - only just seen it!

I was under the impression that the word Zetec first appeared to describe the new generation engines for the early Mondeo's. This extract from Wikipedia goes a little further:-

"Ford Motor Company used the Zetec name on a variety of Inline-4 cylinder automobile engines. It was coined to replace "Zeta" on a range of 1.6 L to 2.0 L multi-valve engines introduced in 1991. The company used the name widely in European advertising and later introduced it to the North American market with the Contour.

The Zetec name was so recognized that Ford decided to apply it to other high-tech four-cylinder engines. It is used across many engine types in Europe today even though the original Zeta design ended production in 2004. Ford also confusingly used the "Zetec" name for a trim level designation in certain markets".

    Cheers!

  9. Greetings!

What should I replace my 2002, 195,000Mile, 1.9Tdi Galaxy Ghia with? Behave now, this is a serious question! :16:

There are atributes of the MK2 Galaxy, which to me, are still attractive and possibly essential for a car which works hard for a living plus its domestic duties.

The fully removable seats allow access to a capacious load area direct onto the vehicle floor. I have the need to carry a fairly hefty glass display cabinet plus exhibition materials and equipment for display.

The Galaxy MK2 does this job handsomley. Now having had a look at the Galaxy MK3 at the local fraud dealer, my concern is with the 'almost' fold flat rear seating arrangement and the load bearing capabilities of what are essentially the seat backrests - is it up to the job? This coupled with the lack of a spare wheel is causing me to shy away from the Galaxy 3.

What else is there to choose from. As far as I can make out the only choices with removable seats are the Kia Sedona  or the Seat Alhambra.

So, are my fears about the Galaxy 3's load carrying capabilities founded/unfounded or should I plump for what is essentially a Galaxy 2 in a slightly fresher suit?

Your thoughts and comments would be welcome.

  10. Can anyone tell me how the tailgate apperture dimensions compare between MkII and MKIII Galaxy's. In addition, I undertand that the new MKIII does not have a spare wheel but has a repair kit or runflat tyres as an option. Has any forward thinking company come up with a spare wheel carrier that could bolt on to the taligate?
  11. Hi My Aux heater packed up almost a year ago now. Dave_M used VAG.com to diagnose O/c Glow Plug which was duly changed. Dave_M returned with trusty VAG.com to reset.... same diagnosis!! Had unit removed and all connections rechecked ok but still no go.

    ?On board contol unit knackered?

Jaroth as an Eberspacher Engineer can you advise any where in the Herts. area I can get a full diagnostic check on the D5WZ without getting Fraud involved. Local dealer wants

  12. Does anyone know where I can source a replacement Booster Heater Contol Unit? Having replaced a proven faulty Glow Plug and had the error codes reset by the amiable Dave_M, the diagnostic still shows o/c Glow Plug. The suspicion is that the controller may have suffered damage as the original Glow Plug failed.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

    Best Regards,

  13. The Price quoted is all inc. but its still chuffin steep in my opinion. :( From the reaction of fellow members, I'm obvioulsy not alone in this thought. Fraud dealer wasn't interested in the Glow Plug theory, when I suggested it might be worth persuing they just shrugged thier shoulders :( dave_m has kindly offered his vag.com expertise which hopefully will narrow down the fault possibilities.

    Cheers!
