  1. Rear heater is above that wheel arch .

  3. I used the dremmel with a spherical cutter about 1 - 1.5 mm in diameter. It cut through the "wood" cleanly but didn't cut the cloth as i was able to feel when it went through the wood and into the foam below the fabric. The dremmel cut slowly and it was easy to control the speed and depth of the cut. The fabric can then be cut and folded back through the hole if desired. This was not necessary on mine, as I said before, the hole required is a lot smaller than the plastic part of the bracket and the metal part fits through easily too. Cheers
  4. I used a dremmel mini tool on mine. You can cut through the "wood" into the foam beneath the fabric and remove the wood. Turn the panel over and cut through the fabric with a stanley knife. The dotted lines on mine were smaller than the load cover brackets i was fitting and the end results are very acceptable. I had to adapt the load cover though as it appeared to be from a gal without the rear heater. Good Luck
  5. In that case I'll stop looking for it then. Cheers
  6. Does anyone know if my recently purchased TDi GLX 90 should have ABS? It passed its' MOT when i bought it but there's no sign of an ABS light. Can't get my VAG-COM lead to work at all so I'm asking here. Cheers
  7. Don't forget to check the small trim panel round the wiper arms. They are held in by 3 clips, 2 of which fit into holes which go right through into the area above the footwells and can let in a surprisingly large amount of water due to the rubber gutter at the side of the windscreen directing all the runoff from the roof straight at them! . Remove the wiper arms, pull off the panel and clips, clean everything up and fill the two holes with as much mastic / silicone sealant as possible and refit the panels and wiper arms. Allow to dry / cure and test with hose - this cured mine. The panel on the passenger side was loose which was the giveaway. The drivers side wasn't but I took it off and sealed the holes anyway. The sound deadening / underfelt takes ages to dry - 24 hours in front of a Red Rad for mine! Good Luck
  8. Thanks Mumof4 searched for thresas posts and found mention of the trim panel above scuttles letting water into passenger / driver footwell. Removed panels, cleaned gunge out of whole area siliconed holes and clips, refitted panels, washed car so far no water so looking good. Who'd believe such a design error could exist, the hole is right where the rubber "gutter" directs all the water from roof and windscreen. Hope it's really fixed this time, getting rather bored sitting in the car whilst fan heater and hot air gun dry out carpet and what's left of the underfelt and soundproofing. Cheers Colin
  9. Air con not working (yet) so probably not the cause. But I;ll have a look anyway incase some water was/is left up there. Cheers Colin
  10. Hi, My passenger footwell continues to fill up with water, after rain, even though i have cleaned out both scuttle drains and confirmed their function with several (big) jugs of water. I have also checked the washer pipes and they are ok. Any other ideas or areas to check anyone? The windscreen appears to be original so unlikely to be poor seals on that. Have checked all door seals whilst fitting new stereo / beesting DAB aerial. I have cut out the soundproofing mat and have it hanging up to dry - about 3 gallons drained so far - infra red heater tomorrow. Close examination after folding back carpet and removing previously cut soundproofing reveals the area nearest the "transmission tunnel" to be the wettest. Help!
  11. It was the wiring, big brown wire snapped, rejoined and boot lights now work with boot opening. Is there a recommended method for replacing / mending the wires? I soldered them and used heat shrink tubing. Many of the other wires are on the way out though. The previous owner has destroyed the rubber gaiter so i guess that's where the small amount of water near the jack has come from. Have recovered intact gaiter from scrapyard - but obviously will need to cut / disconnect all the wires to fit it. The wiring diagram on the tis cd shows a tailgate switch but not where it is!
  12. Hi, Is there a switch for the interior lights in the boot? Neither of mine are working despite a bulb change. The other interior lights work as expected, fade out come on with door opening etc. Is the most likely cause the wiring to the tailgate? Any help appreciated Colin 1997 Galaxy 1.9 TDI GLX
