Evening fellow Galaxy Drivers :angry2: There are a few posts on here about "Occasional" problems with the pedal sticking down, with rather vague replies. Well I know what the main cause is.......read on.... I have been suffering this annoying issue for the last 12 months. It's a problem, but it isn't if you see what I mean because it is so irregular. 12 months ago I did the clutch (twice but thats on a different post) Dual Mass, Carm unit & Clutch Master Cylinder. Bleeding is an absolute nightmare on these and if you read the TIS procedure it's a nightmare for anyone! The issue of the sticking pedal came about after doing all this and it is as a result of a tiny wafer thin metal cup that sits in the top of the clutch pedal and which the ball end of the return spring sits in. This cup is there to stop the spring from wearing the pedal seeing as it is made of plastic! In my case & I suspect many more, this little cup has worn to the degree of breaking in 2. The bad news is, that it seems you cannot buy it seperate and we are not sure if it comes with the spring or with the pedal. Temporarily, I tried to fix the two halves back in place with a little hylomar (yes I know) and plenty of lube. This worked for a while but has now come out altogether. It's one of those jobs I've been putting off cos of the swearing and cursing last time I took it apart! It's just that return spring, there is a real nack to doing it :angry2: So, if you are having these symptoms, it is worth checking. In the meantime I am on the lookout for something I can modify to fit :angry2: Ade

Faulty Alternator Tensioner
adie_baby replied to pauleaton16's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
i purchased the vehicle about 1 month ago from a company called Exclusive motor company based in peterborough. It came with an in house warranty which so far they've purchased a new cam sensor for me. I had to purchase a new cambelt as i didnt want to take any risks loosing the engine and now the alternator tensioner has gone. I'm assuming they also call this a timing belt tensioner? Timing Belt Tensioner and Alt Tensioner are 2 different parts. One would hope that a Timing Belt Kit had been fitted not just a belt....... false economy not to. -
Faulty Alternator Tensioner
adie_baby replied to pauleaton16's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi Paul, I work for Unipart Automotive & this is a component that we do. If you can email me with your full registration number uawellington@talktalk.net I will then check the part and give you your Special Galaxy Owners Club Discount. It is important to check the alternator pulley (also available from us) as when this seizes it does cause the tensioner to fail and would void any warranty from any supplier. I would also suspect that if you just had cambelt done this has played a part as it would have been removed and if it has not been removed using the correct tools it can damage them. You will also find tensioner problems get worse when the dark nights/mornings come along with the cold weather, as naturally more electrical load is on the Alternator due to lights, A/C, Heated screens, Aux heater etc all kick in! Crankshaft Pulley is also another item that can fail as they are called "Torsional Vibration Dampers" on this model. Basically two pieces of metal bonded with rubber to absorb the vibrations from the Crank & stop them affecting the Auxilliary Drive. I'm waffling now! so I'll end it there! lol send us an email paul and anyone else needing parts. Ade -

Drive Shaft Failure
adie_baby replied to bhbobhill's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi, I should warn you that I work for a Competitor of Euro! so I am naturally going to recommend using another supplier! I have also looked at Euro's driveshafts, they look the part & appear to offer value for money! What concerns me though, is that our Supplier of Driveshafts lists DIFFERENT part numbers for left and right and manual or auto box. Euro only appear to list "one for all" on their website. The BHP also affects which shaft is fitted. The only model where LH & RH shafts are the same is the 90BHP Manual. My recommendation to you would be to visit your nearest Unipart Automotive Branch, along with your old shaft and your vehicle details, one of our technical team will take a look for you. The Shafts for the manual are pretty well stocked across our branches, with access to network stock several times a day. It will cost more than Euro, but they are a very reliable product and meet OE specification. Hope this helps Ade -
Hello all. I see many posts on here, with people talking about some parts that they believe to be "Dealer Only". In some cases they are correct, others not so. I work for Unipart Automotive, the countries largest Parts Distributor & I would like to offer all members of The Galaxy Owners Club, preferential terms on any of your parts requirements. At present, this is a "local offer" and you will not get the same terms at any of our other branches, however for larger items such as exhausts, batteries etc, we may be able to arrange collection from a branch nearer to you. In the first instance please email your Registration Number, along with your parts requirements to uawellington@talktalk.net this is a dedicated email address for our members. Unipart has been selling parts for many years and that in itself is a testament to the quality of them. Some items we sell are more expensive than the likes of Euro Car Parts, but you get what you pay for. Why not give us a try, you may be suprised! Regards Ade

I'm afraid your friend is right. Water does not need to enter the oil to indicate head gasket failure, indeed very often it leaks into the combustion chamber and gets burnt off that way. It could be caused by head gasket, cracked cylinder head or block. As a start I would recommend "K-Seal" it is a liquid that you pour into the coolant and allegedly ! seals the leak, whether crack or gasket see http://www.kalimex.co.uk/section.html?secp...04.&pgid=17 Contact your local Unipart or Partco Autoparts, as they sell it. Good Luck Ade :P
