  1. Air con not working on drivers side - Ford have stripped out the dashboard and found a corroded / leaking evaporator. A replacement evaporator has been fitted at a cost of £890. The repair cost consisted of £444 labour and ~ £300 for parts plus vat. I have the old evaporator at home and intend to cut it open to check for internal corrosion. The external fins simply fall off in one corner if I touch them. I have read that diesel exhaust products can plate out on the evaporator and cause corrosion. A solution to this is to fit the upgraded pollen filter which I believe contains activated charcoal. The Air con now works fine on both sides of the car but there is a rattling sound which stops when the A/C is turned off. I suspect that the noise is coming from the compressor. The rattling had been present for a few months prior to the repair. Since I got the car back it appears to be doing approximately 4 mpg more. This is probably due to the A/C compressor not doing as much work.
  2. I have a 2006 MK III Galaxy 2.0TDCi Ghia with the same problem. It is currently with Ford who have stripped out the dashboard and found what appears to be a leaking and corroded evaporator. A new evaporator is apparently on its way from Germany. Once fitted, I will let you know the outcome and the cost. Thanks
