  1. Give it a go. I have a late Mk1 (1999) 2.3 DOHC and the diagram you have matches my car layout. The tensioner pulley being the small pulley, third from the bottom, just to the right and above the large crank pulley. When you put the belt back on make sure that it is seated correctly on all of the pulley grooves, then release the tensioner (you don't want to ruin your belt).
  2. Using a spanner on the tensioner centre bolt turn the tensioner towards the engine block (pull it towards the back of the car) it aint easy but it should move on its spring mechanism. You then have to hold it whilst you put the belt on.
  3. Are you moving the tensioner pulley towards the engine block, coz if you don't it will never go on.
  4. I have a 1999 2.3 Galaxy Ghia. Cruise control has stopped working. Tried the usual pipe check and all seems to be OK, holding a vacuum and moving the accelerator pedal. Tried the vacuum pump which is clean inside, no water, and works off the car. Checked the swithes at the brake and clutch and they both seem to work. When switching on the CC there is a clicking noise from behind the dashboard under the radio. The click occurs when you move the switch far to the left and again when you release the switch. I beleive that this is the relay but not sure. Is there a relay, and exactly where is it? Anyone any suggestions. Need some help as going on a long drive to France next week.

  6. Hi. I have exactly the same problem on my 2.3. I have checked the compressor and it has completely seized. Managed to loosen it once but it seized almost straight away. So I'm thinking that the clutch has seized as well. Have you been able to find out anything further on the belt issue as I have a horrible feeling that all Gal's were fitted with air con?
  7. Look on the control panel, where the climate control is. To the left of the panel there should be a couple of switches for the rear door window winders and below them are the switches for the rear quarter vents. They open and close very slowly mind. Give it a whirl. All mod cons ay!
