  1. Which is why I put the word 'lock' into inverted commas - I wasn't referring to it as being a permanently locked feature ....! Forgive me for being overly tired and unable to source the absolute correct phraseology. Thank you again mk2vr6.
  2. Thanks for that mk2vr6 - did the input last week with my brother-in-law and we coded it okay, but for some reason he was adamant that we press button 6 to 'lock' the code in. I'll follow your instructions when I next get to the ol' Gal. Many thanks again.
  3. Hi, I've done a search but no results - I have a 2005 Galaxy Ghia (TDi 130PS) with the standard audio system. I have the radio code but am not sure how to lock the code in once I've 'typed' it in. I should mention that the car is Spanish registered, located in Spain - and any handbooks are all Greek to me - I mean - Spanish to me. Thanks in advance.
  4. Hmm, upon reflection (ouch!) I've decided to give up the idea - although I'm just wondering (as you already have the mirrors) whether they could be linked to the central locking circuit within the doors. In this way, operate the central locking and the mirrors fold. Just a thought. But thanks for your offer - if it was too much for you it will be equally so for me.
  5. I had a feeling that that was what you were looking for. Am not an expert but I wouldn't have thought it would be possible, after all, there would be many an unscrupulous dealer buying VAG Coms if it were. Why not just kep the old guage (or photograph it's reading) and use that as evidence that the total mileage is as you state - assuming you want the record for selling the vehicle some time in the future.
  6. Thanks for that - I had convinced myself that the Galaxys had folding mirrors somewhere along the line. Probably not worth the effort to swop to Sharan or Alhambra mirrors - the electrics inside the cabin would also present probs. Reckon my wife will have to open her window and flick it (the mirror) back into position!
  7. Hi - have been a member for some months but have only just bought my first Gal - a 2005 (January) 1.9 TDI Ghia with 21,000 kms on the clock (it's Spanish registered and kept in Spain) so now I am gaining experience of Galaxys and discovering questions to ask! The first relates to the external mirrors - which can be folded manually but apparently not electically. Is it possible to convert to electric action by sourcing folding mirrors from a higher spec Gal - or even utilise mirrors from the Sharan or Alhambra? There is a discernible difference between the mirrors, the Gal's being slightly larger that the Sharan/Alhambra - and when folded, they don't tuck in as neatly. I'm not being lazy here - it's a matter of remembring to open the passenger mirror before driving off!
  8. Apologies for resurrecting an old thread - and highjacking it as well (I'm still a newbie here) - can anyone advise as to the availability of chrome bumper corner protectors. I've seen plastic and imitation chrome corners on cars overseas, but have raely seen them in the UK. With a chromed-up Galaxy Ghia I reckon a little more chrome would not look out of place and would hide the parking bruises sustained by the prev owner (it was him/her - honest!).
  9. Firstly - make sure your son has stopped bleeding ("..my bloody son..") then check out franchise dent repairers such as Dentwise etc. These guys follow a very simple but very effective procedure in which they get behind the dent and slowly but surely 'roll' it out using a tool not unlike a radiator paint roller but without the roller. Alternatively you may want to check out franchise scratch repairers such as 'Chips Away' etc. Apologies for inadvertently providing advertising here - but companies such as these do provide less invasive repairs for lesser dents and bumps.
  10. You can also check inside oil-filler cap for signs of head gasket probs - the same white sludge.
  11. When i read this i thought you said dead by now, i was thinking jeebs an evil mum of 4. lol :( So the question must be did mitchell20 or didnt mitchell20 get a gal ?? Don't know about mitchell20 but this thread has done me a power of good - I've just purchased my first Galaxy and yes, I went for a Ghia - largely because it had integrated child seats, invaluable for my twin grandsons. Sadly, I've not yet had the car - it is in Spain (where it will stay) - but will probably find loads to chat about when I take possession. Thanks to one and all for their input over the past months - you have filled me with pleasure, terror, anticipation and lust. Now I'm about to face 'realisation'!
  12. Can I sort of hi-jack this thread - with apologies of course. I have just bought my first Galaxy - a 2005 1.9 TDi and am wondering if the cigarette lighter circuit remains 'live' when the ignition is switched off? I know I could check it out myself quite easily - but - I am in the UK (aren't we all? I hear you ask) but, as mumof4 is aware, my Galaxy - when I get it - is in Spain. I need to know in advance about this circuit thingy 'cos I use a solar battery charger to keep the battery alive when I'm not able to use the car - and it is so easy to just plug into the lighter circuit, but totally useless if circuit is isolated when ignition is switched off. Many thanks - this my first post!
