  1. I have a 98 S reg Galaxy and have finally decided to fix the remote central locking. Some of the posts on here are difficult to understand. This is how I fixed mine. For IR central locking systems
  2. Hi, My gal has an MOT tommorrow and I have just checked the headlights. The sidelights work and so does the main beam however full beam does not work. It doesn't work when I try and flash the lights as well. Are these seperate bulbs, i.e. is it possible that the bulbs have gone, or is likely to be more serious? By the way its a 98 S reg GL, automatic. Many thanks, Bob
  3. Brilliant. Is resetting the ECU easy? I assume it will be in the Haynes manual (I haven't bought one yet). I can't believe you all know so much!!
  4. Brillaint, thanks for your replies. I apreciate what you are saying about running temperature Seatkid. The needle is just into the normal section except when I sit in traffic when it moves up to the middle. I assume this is normal. As for the print out from Ford, here is what it says... 'Carried out investigation. Found faults relating to fuel pressures and intake. Advise replacing Upstream Hego sensor as a first step'. The diagnostic report is as follows... 'Description - P0171 System Too Lean Bank 1 The PCM monitors the adaptive fuel table to ensure fuel control system components do not vary from their nominal values. The fuel control strategy wihin the PCM uses the adaptive fuel table to compensate for normal wear or aging of fuel control system components. The code is set when the PCM can no longer compensate for additional changes in the fuel system. This DTC may be caused by: - Suspect low fuel pressure Crankcase Ventilation system Suspect air intake system leak Suspect engine vacuum leak Suspect H02S11 curcuit - This is the Hego sensor Suspect PCM A blocked fuel filter will restrict the flow of fuel to the pressure regulator. If the fuel supply to the fuel filter is O.K. the fuel filter may be blocked.'
  5. It could be something obvious. Its had new breaks since we bought it so its not binding breaks. Also I can push it so I assume they are not stuck on. It hasn't had new plugs or air filter so this may help. No other symptons. It drives really well. Plenty of power, doesn't smell of petrol so I don't think its running too rich and it doesn't make any funny noises. It's really frustrating. I just hope a garage can pick up a problem. I don't want to pay them for nothing!
  6. Thanks seatkid. It was serviced shortly before I bought it and we have done about 12,000 miles. I suppose its dues a service but its been like this since we got it. I agree about getting rid of it! I do like the car though so even if we got rid I'd probably buy another one. I'm pretty sure I've done my calcs right. If I put
  7. I've got a 2.3 auto Galaxy (S reg) which has done about 120,000 miles. The problem is that it drinks lots of petrol! I reckon it does about 14mpg which is shocking and costing me a lot of money. We've had it about a year and a half and it's always done this. It did have a leaky back box which was replaced and this made no difference. Is there anything obvious I can check? By the way, I drive it very slowly, always poodle up to 60 so its not my fault (I don't think).
  8. Thanks for the info chaps. Been away so haven't had time to reply yet. However I took the car to a garage and it turned out to be an ABS ring which had broken and had punctured the CV Boot. I think he also replaced the CV joint as well. Didn't cost too much in the end!
  9. Hi all, I've got a 1998 S reg Galaxy (115,000 miles) and the headlight switch is intermittent. The side lights go on evey time but to get the headlights to work I need to turn them on/off a few times and usually they spring into life! - The full beam works fine. Speaking to Ford the switch unit is
  10. I bought my Galaxy a couple of months ago from a dodgy back street dealer! Its a 2.3 auto on an S plate with 110,000 miles on the clock. The brakes have always been a little bit too spongy. However if you push hard enough it stops and I can get the ABS to kick in so they are obviously working. However when I get out of the car having driven to work (about 10miles) they smell like I've been racing when I've been taking it really easily. I haven't taken the wheels off to have a look yet but anyone got any ideas? The handbreak is fine and works well. Cheers, Bob
  11. I recently bought a 2nd hand Galaxy (98, S reg 2.3 auto) and it has a knocking sound coming from the front wheel when you turn full lock in either direction. Anyone know what this might be? It seems to be that when you turn left the noise somes from the left (near-side) and when you turn right the noise coms from the right (off-side).
  12. I'm gona take the air bag gubins out and see if this clock spring is faulty. I haven't got a Haynes manual but I have reserved one at my local library for the bargain basement price of 50p! If it turns out to be faulty I'll replace and then ask a Ford dealer to reset the air bag warning light.
  13. I wonder if that is why my remote locking isn't working! Maybe a wire has been knocked or something.
  14. So should it have some sort of cover on it? I didn't realise that the car even had an alarm! My remote locking doesn't work so will the alarm arm when I lock the doors with the key? Cheers, Bob
