Air Con Compressor Failed For Good.
dodge replied to dodge's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
So, I managed to get an A/C clutch bearing and got the Gall running again last week with the compressor just acting as an idler for the belt. It seems you need to change the alternator mount bracket to a non A/C version to get the correct idler; a bearing for -
Air Con Compressor Failed For Good.
dodge replied to dodge's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi, yes there is but i will also need to replace the condenser and receiver dryer as the system is contaminated and the Mk1 condesers dont flush well due to the small size of the tubes in the core. No budget at the moment hence im looking to leave the compresser off and fit what i think is the missing idler. dodge -

Hi All Not been on the forum for some time as my old Mk1 1.9 Tdi Gall had been behaving well up until Sunday. To cut a painful saga short the A/C compressor has done gone bust in a big way and i don -
Glow Plugs Wont Heat Up
dodge replied to hiflexjohn's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hm, sounds like you may have the problem I have just sorted with help from this Forum. My TDi 90Bhp has 150,000 miles on it and suddenly became a pig to start with loads of smoke (see posting 90 Bhp Tdi Poor Starting And Loads Of Smoke) I went through the hurddles of replacing every thing related to the pre heat circuit, the old glow plugs were not working when I tested them but now I reckon they had been gone for sometime and this was not my problem. I also replaced the temp sensor as you have, the one that i removed had a yellow marking ,the one i fitted has a blue marking. This, I was told is what the part number changes up to. To cut a long story short, now i have sorted my other problems and my Gall starts fine again i rechecked the function of the heater plugs and found that they are not heating, this i put down to the current mild weather we have, and the coolant temp is not low enough to trigger the heat circuit. To double check this i reconnected the origional yellow sensor and the glow plugs were still not activated and the engine starts fine. I think if all else is good these engines dont need heat at this time of year. As with yours, the only way i could start mine was with the dreaded Evil Start spray. Have you had the cam belt replaced recently? I reckon that was the starting point for my problems, even if it was 10,000 miles ago. Check you timing. dodge -

The seeds of doubt are sown burundi. I checked the timing on mine going by my marks made when i replaced the belt 10,000 miles ago and of course all loooked ok. Having ponderd the issue i now see that they will be in line even if the bottom puly has rotated on the crankshaft. When i replaced the belt previously i could not see the timing mark for the crank,is it on the flywheel and visable through the top hole in the gearbox/clutch housing? dodge -

Glow Plugs Wont Heat Up
dodge replied to hiflexjohn's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi have you replaced the glowplug relay? I have been having similar problems with heat plugs and you can hot wire the system with the relay removed to check the wiring upto the plugs. Just connect the 2 large terminals in the relay holder with a suitably heavy section of cable,i put a push button switch in mine so i could control it. Also what i found was with the temp sender removed the plugs would heat for about 20 seconds presumably as a default, and heat for about 7 seconds with the sensor connected, depending on engine temp i supose. Hope this helps some. dodge -

Hi I took my troublsome 90bhp to a Diesel injection specialist today,he connected his diagnostic box and found a problem with the internal electrikcery of the injection pump. I blasted home, removed the pump and ran it back to him to sort out. On the way there and back the car drove fine until i took my foot off the gas and coasted for some time from a high speed, when putting my foot on the gas again there was no power but loads of white smoke from the rear then all of a sudden it would clear and off we go again and drive perfectly. (sounds the same as graemewelch posting) I will post the findings of the injection pump strip when i here what the news is. dodge -

Doom and gloom! Still no start, preheat relay replaced, temp sensors replaced, cam belt timing double checked and is spot on. I hate Easy Start but with a small squirt she will start and run all day, drives normally,no smoke to speak of,run up to temperature and switch off and it will restart if you dont leave it too long, but 15 to 20n mins and she wont restart even with heat. Anyone got any idears, could it be the ECU controling the injection pump? dodge -
Windows Wont Shut And No Central Locking
dodge replied to rushy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi As Chris says, check the cables in the rubbber gaiter between door and door post.I had to repair mine today as the drivers window had stopped working and the passenger window would only go down which ever way you pressed the switch. Found 2 cables broken in the drivers door to post area, repaired them and now ok.Also found central locking fuse blown but that may have been an own goal! Recommend disconnecting the batt before you start fiddlin. Happy days. dodge -
Hi In my humble opinion...... A/c top up cans are more likely to be more trouble than they are worth. You can

Me Again Re 90Bhp tdi 1997 no start. I have now replaced all 4 glow plugs, I thought I was on the right track as all of the ones removed were inoperative. Checked the plugs are heating Still no start, I have bypassed the fuel filter to eliminate problems there, and the inj pump is drawing fuel ok from a separate supply (jug) Removed No 1 injector, reconnected it out of the head and cranked the engine over, it was injecting but I suspect now only intermittently. I have taken a look at the cam belt and it does not appear to have lost tension, so I don -
Hi My 1997 90Bhp Tdi has all of a sudden decided to be a pig to start. Normally starts fine on the first turn but now cranks and cranks with copious amounts of white / grey smoke from the exhaust. I suspect at 150,000 miles the glow plugs have given up but why all at once? The pre-heat lamp is illuminating as it always has so I am assuming the control circuit is working. I am going to check the plug resistance tonight but does any one have info on locating and checking the control circuit, relay etc.I assume the relay is controlled by the main brain ECU? Thanks dodge
