  1. Is there someone who has the answer to this problem? I also have it intermittently on my 2007 TDCi Ghia and sounds like it is a common fault. If anyone knows what needs fixing/replacing adjusting, please could you post an answer? Thanks,
  2. Mazzo, For the last few weeks, I have had identical symptons to you - soot, intermittent/hesitant power loss and higher mpg. I had a new head fitted a month or so ago after the cambelt failed early. I will probably take it back to the garage which fitted the head to see if its a related problem if I cant find a cure. Will follow your thread though in the meantime to see how you get on. Did you make any progress at the weekend? Smon 1999 1.9 Tdi (110)
  3. Any more suggestions on the solution to this? :) Sounds similar to a problem I had last weekend. Sitting in a queue of traffic on a hill, in heavy rain, wipers on intermittent, they suddenly went crazy and hurtled across the screen, still intermittently. Switching off at the stalk switch didnt make any difference, only turning off the ignition stopped them going. Later, on turning on ignition again they behaved ok. Could this be the control module getting wet? :)
  4. Lots of info on both these topics in various threads. Do a search for auxiliary heater or booster heater which is almost certainly the source of your jet engine noise (quite normal). The gritty key problem is also discussed in a thread. Happy searching. Simon
  5. Thanks Martin, I tried in our local Woolies but no luck either in the toy section or with the other car bits. I have found this one from Argos for
  6. I have a 99 110 Tdi. Despite the recent freezing weather, I neither hear the ticking nor the turbine noise. Does this mean that the booster/aux heater isnt working, or was it only fitted to the later models? Simon
  7. Is the click therefore just the sound of the switch operating? From reading the various posts, I got the impression that the wiring is such that a break in the drivers door wiring can stop windows in other doors working as Andy has posted here. If this is the case, you could have this common problem. Simon
  8. Sounds like a good deal Martin. A few questions: Do they mount in the same holes as the factory fit version or do you have to drill new ones? How many sensors are there? Is the functionality the same as the Ford unit (I havent seen the real thing, so dont know what to expect)? And finally, what make are they, so that I can ask for them in Woolies, if I cant find them on the shelf? Heres hoping, Simon
  9. Any recommendations for a retrofit alarm? Is there much benefit in fitting one?
  10. Not an import as far as I know. Maybe it was removed/disabled but there is no sign that there was ever a switch installed under the bonnet (and I can see where it should be mounted). Smon
  11. I have the flashing led in the door and it behaves as described in various threads here. I had expected the alarm to be fitted as standard but maybe that isnt the case? or maybe mine was removed at some point (but there is no switch at the bonnet hinge, as pointed out by fredt). Can anyone else out there confirm that an alarm would have been fitted as standard to a 99 Ghia-X?:( Smon
  12. Just to confirm that Shackers is right, you do need TWO working keys to use this method. I tried with one key, putting it in twice, but this failed to then reprogram my second (non-working) key.
  13. Thanks very much Martin and Fred. I tried both of your methods and no alarm. Opening the bonnet confirmed that there is no trigger switch at the hinge and hence no alarm has been fitted. :(
  14. Hi, I've just found this forum and have already found answers to questions/problems on my 99 Tdi Ghia-X bought a couple of months ago. What an excellent source of info! :) On the sale description was listed an alarm. Does anyone know if this is fitted as standard on the Ghia-X? How can I find out if it is fitted and working? I tried locking the doors using the remote whilst I was inside, then moving around but nothing happened. Should this have triggered the alarm? Smon
