Sharan Body Control Module
daveandsharan replied to daveandsharan's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Yes Mirez, it is 12v constant now. I guess with hindsight I could have connected a lead between the output of F32 and pin 5 on the radio. May have been a cheap fix. However, if the BCM "talks" to the ECU (?) I guess it might have interrupted the "conversation" ? Well we live and learn and all is well now, Dave -
Sharan Body Control Module
daveandsharan replied to daveandsharan's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
My problem is solved! Despite all the helpful and detailed information, (many thanks to Mirez) I wasn't able to find any obvious faults, so I left it in the hands of my local independent. As diagnosed on the initial scan, the fault was a broken wire in the loom between the BCM and the radio and heater control unit. Apparently there is a common live feed. Now repaired at a cost of two hours labour to remove dash to gain access. Everything working again. Nice to have warm air on these cold mornings! I note there are similar problems being reported, with non-working unrelated electrical items. Hope this helps someone out there, Dave -
Sharan Body Control Module
daveandsharan replied to daveandsharan's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Hi Mirez, Great info many thanks. All measurements were taken on the actual pins with the radio out of the car. As you suggest I will check F32 again with a multimeter. Previously I just looked at each and every fuse! I'm not sure the fuse "map" on the fuse box can be relied upon. Then again this also assumes the Sharan and Galaxy are alike in this respect. Worth another check nevertheless. Thanks again, Dave -
Sharan Body Control Module
daveandsharan replied to daveandsharan's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Thank you Mirez for your helpful reply. With respect to the radio, the alarm LED flashes with the ignition off and the buttons light up with the sidelights on. If I press the "ON" button, I see a rapid flash across the screen, and that's it. I measured the pins as follows: 1= 3v ign off; 2= spare; 3= 11v ign on: 4= 12v ign off; 5= 1.5v ign off; 6= 8v with sidelights on; 7= 12v ign off; 8= capacitive earth, ie. a full swing of the needle then a slow fall back to a mid point. Although the voltages are present and correct, perhaps there is insufficient current? WRT the heater control unit. It is not climate controlled but three dials with three buttons below. Firstly, none of the fascia illuminates with the sidelights on. Only the middle blower dial operates the blower motor on all four speeds (so hedgehog OK?) The other dials are for (1)aircon on and (2) hot and cold. I saw a previous response of yours re pin voltages on the back of this unit and they appear OK. Which makes me think the insufficient current might be the issue. From your reply, I guess the good news is that because everything else works, the actual BCM is probably OK. I am puzzled by the fact the radio and heater control unit both stopped working at the same time. I can't understand the relationship between the two. I might try to connect a good earth to pin 8 of the radio to see if this makes any difference. I wonder if both items share a common earth? Grateful for any further thoughts you might have, Dave -
I have a 2004 115SE Sharan. The radio and heater control panel don't work any more. Everything else works OK. After checking all the fuses and substituting another radio (same problem), I gave up and paid for a diagnostic scan at my local independent. Their view was that it was probably a problem associated with the Body Control Unit which required dash removal to access. They think it might be a broken wire in the harness. My question is, what else does this BCM control? If everything else works OK, I guess a broken wire is an accurate diagnosis. If the BCM was faulty, what else would be affected? If I need a new BCM, do they need to be programmed to my car? I can see

Fixed Price Servicing Costs
daveandsharan posted a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Just for information, VW Wayside have published a fixed price menu on the following link: http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/servicing/fixed-price-servicing I know many readers ask the price of brakes and discs and cambelt change etc., you can use this as a benchmark price from a main dealer in the South East. Dave -
Many thanks Mr T, I assumed that might be the case, but now you've confirmed it,. Thanks again Dave

Hi everyone, hope you can help me to verify if my aircon service was actually carried out by my main dealer. I recently took my sharan in for a 60k service and a two yearly aircon service. The aircon was working although the air wasn't particularly cold. When I collected my car, I couldn't feel any difference in the air temperature from the aircon. I had expected a blast of really cold air. Under the bonnet, I note there are two valves associated with the aircon, both with black plastic caps plus traces of green dye. I assume this is where the technicians measure or test the refigerant , or is this where they empty it and refill it? On closer inspection both valves and caps are still covered in road dust and do not appear to have been touched in ages. No fingermarks or anything. Before I question the dealer I thought I would ask you people how the aircon is serviced. Should the valves and caps have been removed for the service? Any help/ comments welcome Thanks dave

Brake Warning Light
daveandsharan replied to cheekymonkey's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
My VW Sharan 2004 115SE needs new pads and discs all round. Anyone like to suggest what I might have to pay at main dealers or an independent. I have looked at the very detailed instructions on this site on DIY replacement but I'm not keen on putting my limited skills to practice on the braking system. Thanks dave -
An update on the door mirror indicator repeater for my Sharan. The ebay item, spotted by Mirez, sold above my bid; ie sold for

I also had the same problem on my old Mk1 Galaxy, 1998 1.9 tdi GLX. Having located the relay, thanks to this site, I soldered the legs which had a dry joint, and it lasted for two years until I sold it on. The dry joint was also flagged from this site, If you are confident at soldering, saves the cost of a new relay. Hope this helps someone, Dave

Hi Mirez, That's fantastic! What a great response ! I didn't know the Sharan shared parts with other VW models. The price is still fairly low so I'll make a bid and if successful, I'll have a mirror as good as new at a fraction of the cost of a new part, (although with a slight crack in the casing which I can live with) Thanks again. dave

Hi everyone, My first post. I have owned a Mk1 Galaxy since 1998 and found this site first class. Helped me fix all the usual problems, wipers, wiring loom, relay 30 etc., etc. Now I've got a Sharan SE 2004 which is superb. My wife just collided with a van on a country lane and smacked the drivers door mirror. All the elctric motors appear to work and the casing is cracked but looks gopod enough to live with. I've ordered a repacement glass off ebay. What is broken completely is the clear lens covering the indicator repeater light on the lower side of the mirror casing. I suppose it isn't possible to buy a separate part? I don't want to buy a complete casing if I can help it. Anyone know for sure? Any help/advice gratefully received. Thanks
