Replaced radiator, refilled (with correct antifrezecheck which colour), now two months down the line - no problems, even 6 up piled high with luggage, roof box and nagging wife, both me and the car kept our cool.

I've got the same problem with my '98 alhambra 1.9 tdi 110, on long journeys 70-80 i's fine. Howver, when under load the temperature increases, and then expands out out of the bottle (over the battery) then promptly overheats further due to lack of coolant !. So far I 've replaced the thermostat and water pump - no change. A ford main dealer friend suggests it's probably a partially blocked radiator...I'll let you know
