Has anyone any idea how much effect on fuel consumption the aux heater can have? My 130bhp Tdi 2003 Manual only does about 34mpg regardless of how I drive it. I too have sometimes experienced a diesel smell outside of the car and can relate to some of the smoking issues.

I was expecting about 40 average, best I have ever got including steady run on motorway is 35 mpg. Even allowing for a heavy right foot, mine is nowhere near these figures. Does anyone know of a diesel specialist in the northwest area, or should I go back to the main dealer at

Got a 2003 130BHP 1.9Tdi MANUAL 2003. 40k on clock Averages about 34 to the gallon, this seems excessive. Ford dealer just serviced and says can't find anything "obviously" faulty. One mechanic thought 34 was quite good! I would be interested in what others get. The car starts first time and seems to run very well, no smoke etc. Thanks
