  1. I think a good fitting 6 sided socket or ring spanner and a long extension would be better. try tightening it a tiny bit first too. If heating it, try and heat the sump and cool the plug with a freezer spray from maplins, sometimes helps.
  2. Be prepared this may strip the thread from the sump at the same time. Re-tapped mine and fitted a heli-coil insert (steel thread) into the alloy sump with a kit from ebay and a motorbike sump plug which, as a bonus has a magnet in it to catch loose filings (2 oil changes and none so far). Hope this helps.
  3. Oh, cool, have changed them before, will do them again when I get back from my hols. Thanks.
  4. Changed drop links, bottom ball joints, track rod ends, top suspension mounts, bearings on the suspension mounts, front shocks, wishbone bushes and checked all over for loose bolts but still getting knocking sound over rough ground. I also replaced front brake pads and it seems to be the pads rattling in the caliper as the noise stops if the brakes are applied. Go figure!
  5. Hi, haven't been on for a while but had some luck today and thought I would pass it on. Door lock on drivers door seized up, so I took it off and apart to find a broken piece inside which had lodged in the workings. Went to my local Fraud dealer to be told a new handle in primer would be around
  6. Great place, fitted first time and next day delivery. 1st class.
  7. Had a quick look and it's just what I'm after. Many thanks for that.
  8. I have heard back from dealer this afternoon, and the repair kit is no longer available. A new caliper is
  9. Hi, just been out in Galaxy 2.8V6 2002 model and have noticed front brake drivers side is rubbing on disc. I have removed the wheel and caliper and it turns out that the dust seal has split at some time and there is a bit of rust on the piston. I have cleaned up the piston and all is fine there but I can't find a supplier for a new dust seal which seems to be 'superglued' to the caliper. I have spoken to the parts dept. at dealers and he is not sure if the dust seal comes withe the piston seal or not. Does anybody out there know what comes in the repair kit, or the part number of the kit or even another supplier for the kit? Thanks for reading. p.s I have put it all back together for now with a smear of grease round the bit of piston which is showing, but dont expect it to last.
  10. Great topic. I have also used a can from Halfords but it only worked for about a week, also had it filled at the tyre place but no change in temperature so no charge. On the bright side they did say it had no leaks. If anyone knows of a decent aircon engineer around Berkshire then can you send me their details.
  11. Hi, I had this very same problem with my 02 plate V6 24v in that it would shake the car at about 20mph and 40mph and after checking tyres and balancing and replacing track rod ends and lower ball joints, it turned out to be the off side drive shaft inner cv joint. The joint was so worn that it had about 5mm play but would not show wear in certain positions of rotation. Bought one off ebay and alls well now. Hope this helps.
  12. Anyone else get this one or have I got a genuine admirer? I think she is just very friendly!
  13. Been to kwikfit this afternoon on the offchance they could lower the temp but no such luck, new compressor then. Did'nt charge me though all credit to them.
  14. Dont use white spirit because it will leave an oily residue on the discs. use meths if you have no brake cleaner.
  15. Ah the condensor fan has been running continuously for the past few weeks, maybe this problem is linked to that!
