  1. Yeah, Great Bargain. When did you last read German and trust someone shipping from Dresden once he has your money? Didn't we bomb the place? It must still be there then! Still, :D at around
  2. Hi Mussey I had a SONY MP3 unit put in and the radio reception is not 100%, that is true. It is more like 80%. To tell the truth, I hadly ever notice as I tend to drive in urban areas and radio transmission signals are quite strong. You will have noticed that the aerial is a strip on a rear passenger window and it needs amplication. This power is probably from the head unit since my Sony unit sometimes loses the RDS ID in rural areas. Having said that, the quality sound of this unit more than makes up for it. Since I was not present at the fitting I cannot confirm it has the standard aerial socket, but I presume it does. To sum up; try another unit and see how you get on. If you live in a rural area, seek advice from a good local dealer. Hope this helps.
  3. Hi Sara I've got a 1998 version of the 2.3 Ghia, so I guess you have exactly the same model. Bad news, I'm afraid: three things suck! The stalk controls will not work with any other unit, the power amplifier within the Galaxy may have an adverse effect when trying to get a nice volume, and the powered aerial is a pig. Having said all that I went for an MP3 SONY XPLOD unit and I don't regret it! The sound quality is superior and having almost 100 music tracks on 1 CD is wonderful. Why (like most things in life) does it have to be a compromise? Still it could get worse - you could get married! No seriously; my wife is a gem! Have a lovely 2004!
  4. Hi Chaps I really do like my Galaxy, but now the cold times are here I am freezing my nuts off when I drive her. Symptoms: The temp. gauge needle never comes goes into the centre (stays in the "cold engine" range). There is a large metal stud/boss 1" across, that is hanging loose on the end of an electric lead near to the battery in the engine compartment. Is this a heat sensor? I have found out that my Gal had a front end bash (previous owner) and has been repaired. Could this be responsible? I believe this is an electricial problem due to the above reasons and cannot believe a thermostat can pack up after 20k. Does anyone know where there is a good electrics firm in South London going down to the coast near Brighton? Your help will be rewarded with Xmas cards and a few beers, if I get warm!
  5. I have a Galaxy 2.3 Ghia 1998 which has done 25k. It can easily do over 110mph (of course I did this on a racetrack!) and I am very happy with it. Imagine my horror when I heard a wheezing noise and I lost all power, on a long trip. I was on the A23 heading towards Brighton and I coasted to an exit for Haywards Heath. With my family onboard I called the RAC. They arrived within 30 minutes! The RAC man diagnosed that my exhaust was blocked completely, probably the catalytic converter was to blame. He towed the Galaxy into Burgess Hill to a Hy-Q exhaust centre (the first place we came across) and the RAC man explained to them what was occurring. The exhaust centre confirmed it was indeed a bocked catalytic converter and were able to work on it straight away. Now maybe I got lucky, but I was counting my lucky stars that I had RAC membership. He even offered to take my family down to Brighton whilst the work was being done. What more could you ask for? That is what I call service and I will definately renew my membership next year. As for the AA, I feel they are inferior having used them once. I am sorry to hear about bad experiences from other Gal drivers, but I hope I was not just lucky and the RAC is really that good. Bye-the-way has anyone else had a catalytic converter screw up after 25k?
  6. Hi Guys For you guys South of London, or can get to the Gatwick/Crawley area, I have found a saint of a locksmith who can cut and program a spare key for
  7. Hi Martin I have just purchased a Ford Galaxy 2.3 1998 and had a new SONY MP40 head unit installed. Despite the ICE dealers assurances that the stalk control would work, he did not manage it. To his credit he then let me the unit at a huge discount as compensation. I have hunted high and low for a solution. Apparently it is a VW stalk control (compliments of the Portugese Sharan/Galaxy factory), and no one makes a compatible lead. So you are not the only suffering. As soon as I have found a solution, I will let you know.
