  1. I replaced my glowplug (BERU make from Ebay) about 18months ago, It worked perfectly last winter, all worked fine untill New Years day and now doesn't kick in at all regardless of ambient and/or coolant temperature. Surely it should have lasted more than 18months, Or could it have developed a different problem now. Any advice appreciated. So sick of all the nigley faults from a reputable German badge that I'm considering getting shot of it. Never had such a host a faults on any other german car I've owned in the past 25yrs. Dal
  2. I noticed the rear silence on my Sharan Tdi 2001 dangling the otherday, it had rusted of and was just hanging by the rubber grips to the chassis. The thing is I noticed NO change in the noise that it makes. Had it replaced this lunchtime and still there is no noise difference, so whats the point of this bit of the exhaust. In the old days on my Sierras etc if the rear silencer went you could hear your car 1/2 mile away. Also don't know if other owner ever experience this, but whenever I use the windscreen washer fluid, the water gives of a really smelly vapour for a short while and is then ok. This happens if I use plain water or any other type of windscreen washer fluid. Smells like there is a dead fish in the resoiviouer or something. Just really curious as to what the stink is (smelly stagnant water or something, or maybe the resourviou could do with a powerflush) Thanks Dal
  3. Hi, my TDi is going in for a service next week (non stealers). I usually buy the PD oil & filter from GSF and only pay for the labour charges. However this time I intend to have the fuel filter and front brake discs changed. Would the quality of these parts be ok to use on my 2001 PD 115tdi, or should I bite the bullit and use the stealers. I intend to purchase the more expensive discs from GSF as a mater of caution. Also my front brake pads are virtually "as new" as I cover very low miles. Do have to change these at the same time or can the existing ones be used. Many thanks for any advise offered Regards Dal
  4. Hi, I had my 2001 Sharran TDi serviced in Sept 06 and the service warning light was reset at that time. The warning light has just come on again to say that I need a service in 2,000miles time when I know for a fact that it is due in 3,000miles time (ie every 10,000 miles, this is based on the reading stamped in the book when it was last serviced) Is this normal or are the garage trying to get me to get it serviced before its due. Or is it a fault. The light was defintely reset when it was last serviced and I haven't messed about with it (via the odometer button) at all. Many thanks Dal
  5. Hi All, Does anyone know if the on board computer takes into account the fuel burnt by the booster heater (which has been kicking in lately due to the cold weather). I ask this because I worked out that my car has actually done 40mpg where as the onboard computer thinks its done about 45mpg. I work it out manually everytimne I fill up and its usually about 2mpg (max) less than the compter says but nows its out by 5mpg. Just wondered wheter the computer does or doesn't take into account the fuel burnt by the booster heater. Many thanks Dal PS Happy new year to you all
  6. How do I search for more than one key word on this forum ie "booster mpg". Searching works for one word only. If Ienter more tha one word then it fails with errors. Thanks Dal
  7. Just fixed it, It was the thickest wire in loom (red and yellow). Funny how the thickest wire snaps. What poor poor quality. Thanks to all for helping me out
  8. Mine did extactlt that when I replaced it with a 340 a few weeks back. Smoked like hell for the 1st 3 or 4 days with the ticking noises etc. Now kicks in (with the ticking noise) and runs without the excess smoke. It had run in over a year at least. Yours too should settle down after a few days. Ticking sound and wam exhaust pipe (on the booster) is a good sign of it working ok.
  9. thankyou, Ill have look ove the w/e Really strange as the rubber boot is still in very good condition. Is it just very poor quality wires in there or is there just no slack in the wires or something that
  10. My cars NSR electric window has just packed in. It doesn't work from the drivers side switch nor the switch on the actual door and nor does it wind up and down via the key (when the rest do). Thankfully its packed up in a closed position. Its a Mk2 2001 Sharan 1.9TDi. It has been working fine till now, I've never had the door card off or anything. The wiring in the door pillar seems to be in good nick. The front footwells are bone dry If its the switch can just try swapping the switch from the other rear door. Tried to find out if it has separate fuse for that window, but the fusecard and the owners manual is as clear as mud. Any help most welcome.
  11. I fitted the booster heater glow plug last w/e and this morning it fired up for the 1st time since I've owned the vehicle (Bought it Nov 2005). I don't know how long it has had a faulty glow plug. The temp reading on the dash was 7.5 Deg C. However it produced clouds of whitish/Greyish smoke for about 10mins after it fired up, the little exhaust did get hot so I guess it is burning the diesel. Question, is this normal behaviour when the booster fires up 1st thing in the morning or is there a fault or is it just because it hasn't fired up for a considerable amount of time and will settle down in a few days. On the plus side the engine warm-up time did reduce dramatically as my morning journey is in slow moving traffic. Got funny stares from cars nearby they though my car was on fire or something. I fitted an uprated BERU glowplug as recommended by a fellow forum member who supplies the plugs Any help advice most appreciated.
