thanks for your advice, im still not sure weather or not to plug it into frauds machine to see if they show any faults. im not going to let them loose on it. not at their prices.

hi, ive got a 51 plate 1.9 tdi, which has started to run on 3 cylinders only when hot and usually after about 12 miles. rac thought it was a sticking injector as it didnt show any faults. but when you switch it off and on, sometimes it clears the fault, sometimes not. there are no warning lights showing, so dont think its lambda. it seems to go into limp home mode, but its definately running on 3 cylinders, as opposed to just running seemingly without the turbo. it started off doing it occasionaly, now its every time you go out in it, its guarenteed to misfire. ive put a new fuel filter on, but its still the same. any ideas ?

hi sher, were hoping to move to spain next year( currently have a place 40 mins south of alicanti) so maybe able to be of use in future!!! the problem turned out to be a blocked master cylinder( very rare) in hindsight( a very useful thing), the clutch slave cylinder(release bearing on galaxys) was leaking for quite a long time; approx 7 or 8 months. the pedal was slowly getting lower because the ffluid was leaking out onto the clutch, but because of the blocked master cylinder, it was not being topped up. when i tried to bleed it before i had replaced the slave cylinder, i merely let out what little pressure there was. out! when i stripped the master cylinder out, the end seal was covered in crap. hence the blockage. once the cylinder was replaced (

hi sher, now that ive got the thing working again, i can report that i now have no free play on the clutch pedal at all. the pedal is firm right from the top. i can only assume that if there is free play in the pedal, then it has air in the system polski

Hi, i agree , it is strange. ive never had a servo do this to me before, and it did make me check all the vacum pipe connections first, which, when it was pissing it down, wasnt something i really wanted to do! i dont know why the servo locked itself out in the first place. i can only put it down to the fact that had used a pressure bleeder. dont forget that the hydraulic fluid for the clutch is fed from the brake master cylinder. im was only too pleased that the servo decided to kick back in eventually.even if i was ready to torch the bloody thing by then!!! i just wanted to post the problems i had experienced, to give other people hope!! polski

hi all, had a problem last week not being able to bleed clutch. its all become clear in hindsight. loss of clutch pedal getting lower caused me to try and bleed the clutch. big mistake. what had happened is that the master cylinder had a blockage in the end seal, not allowing and fluid to enter the system( 52.000 main dealer serviced). when i bled it, all i did was to let out what little pressure that was in the system ,out.( the clutch slave cylinder had started leaking, letting the fluid out slowly), check bottom of gearbox bell housing for tell tale oil leak. reassembled using new slave cylinder, and in the end, new master cylinder. the clutch pedal was being pulled to the floor, until there was enough pressure in the system to push it back up. i bled it in the end using a pressure bleeder, but when i went to move the car, i found out i had no servo for the brakes. i eventually ran the car carefully up and down the drive a few times, and the pedal came back soft as the servo cut back in. i can only put this down to the pressure bleeder. hope that this info may help somebody in the future. good luck polski

hi mike, sorry mate dont know where the temp sendre is, though i do know it sounds like your thermostat is stuck open. does it warm up eventually?, if your ecu thinks the engine is cold, it could over compensate with more fuel, this could possible be why your car is running at 1200 rpm. its like running with the choke stuck on. by all means fix the temp sender, though it may be working ok! do check your thermostat though atb polski

Crashing Into Third Gear
polski replied to bigdave982's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
hi chap had the cables off our 52k tdi yesterday( i had to get box out) there was no slack( up and down ) in the linkage. there are two parts to it( as you will have seen). one goes over a splined shaft and is held on by a 13mm nut. the other goes through at 90 degrees to this, its held on by a clip, but this does have a plastic sleeve/liner in it. maybe this is worn. apart from that, there was no play in any of the connections. -
Clutch & Flywheel - Shall I Change It Myself?
polski replied to Mounis's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi i have just changed the release bearing in my wifes galaxy.this was just plain awkward. you need to have spline tools, as well as spanners and sockets. nothing too special. just lots of patience and time. i have changed loads of engines / boxes, but this one was just plain awkward. i didnt have a problem with driveshafts, but i was careful to mark the position of the o/s housing so i could re align it properly. if you want me to tell you what i took off, let me know. polski hi again, i did this galaxy on the drive. drove it up onto ramps, then changed them for axle stands. yes it was awquard to get the box out and in, but once the box was off , access to the flywheel and clutch are very easy. good luck -
Thanks for your reply. i hear what you are saying about the failing release bearing. its this that i replaced yesterday. the clutch luckily was still ok( i used to do loads of work on cars). this galaxy also towed a little i believe before we got it. it only had 36000 mles on, and we knew the people we got it off. my problem now appears that i cannot get fluid back into the master cylinder. its a dual one on these, and fed from the brake master cylinder.i was told that the pressure to hold the pedal up comes from the pressure on the release bearing from the clutch. but because i cant get fluid into the system now. suspect faulty master clyinder now! normal ways of bleeding (as you have described well) have not worked, and i have even tried a vacum bleeder. this sucks fluid through the system. all unsucessfull so far.!! might need a box of matches and a gallon of petrol to fix this one! (dont think my wife would be too happy though!) its interesting to hear what you say about the slack on the pedal to be normal, that will help when i get it to bleed. thanks chris
