Acouple Of Things!
romseygalaxy replied to romseygalaxy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanx, the Gal is probably worth 50p so as much as I love and cherish her, the aire con is gona have to stay broken as there is a credit crunch on and my finances are currently 'sub prime'!. Re the resistor pack, can you enlighten me further please? Kev -
I need to change the aux belt on my 95 2.0 petrol with air con. Is it easy? and secondly, air con stopped working. I have manual air con, push the button, light comes on, but nothing happens?. I noticed that the 30 amp, 3rd position blower (??) fuse in the aux fuse box under the bonnet had blown also, changed it and seems to make no difference to anything. Any ideas on both please. Kev

I've changed the rear shock on my Gal, bolts were a bit stiff, but if you use a torque wrench set to correct torque you know you won't over do it and shear them. other than that it was easy ... and I'm am not a mechanic by any string of the immangination!

I need to change my front discs and pads. Done the rear pads without any hassle before. Never changed discs though. Is there any problems that I need to know about? Do this discs come off easily? I suppose I will have to bleed the whole system again and remove the bl**dy drip tray thing under the wipoer moter again? I haven't got ABS to worry about. Also my brake lights don't come on until the car has almost stopped I have been told this is common? .

Erratic Temp Gauge Needle
romseygalaxy replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
My temp gauge plays up, at first i panicked thinking there was a problem with the car, I have to say I just ignore it now! -
My Galaxy was running rough as a dog after coming back from the garage after having a clutch change. Took it back and the mechanic disconnected the MAF.. hey presto runs fine. I'm sure he must have thought It was like it before the clutch went wrong!!. Reasonable assumption, but it was OK. Still, anyone got any ideas on price or best place to get one from?..( other than Fraud) Ebay only seems to sell TDI ones. Also, if it runs perfectly OK without it.. what does it do? Kev

Poor Performance
romseygalaxy replied to romseygalaxy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
HT leads and plugs all quite new. It has been like it since clutch replacement. I intend to teke it back, but you know.... finding time , need car for work etc. I was wondering if the garage could have left something off.? Is it a coincidence, could it be te MAF? It just doesn't seem like a problem that could be associated with the actual clutch.. I think Kev -

How about some car details? Oops, 1997 2.0 petrol, manual. 99000 miles. -
My Galaxy is misbehaving. Sluggish performance, hesitates on acceleration. Had the clutch changed but that seems OK. Not an expert, could there be a lead or pipe disconnected ( looked everwhere)? It problem is sort of intermittant across the rev range. Any ideas? KB

My clutch went last week. Got it towed to local Ford dealer who didn't want to know. Told me they didn't have the tools to do the job!! The car wasn't drivable and I had to get it towed to my house whilst i looked for a local garage  who's doing it tomorrow for

Safest and easiest way is to give it to someone else to do. I did my clutch last year and it was an absolute pig, I used a hoist and trolley jack and had great problems lining engine and box up, with the beam this shold be much easier in theory. Setup a swear box and put in a quid every time you curse and when you've finished you'll have enough to take it to a dealer to do next time.

My '97 Gal passed it's MOT yeterday. Had a few things pointed though; play in top bushes of front suspension struts and small bit of 'play' in sterring rack. Has anyone had these before or had them and rectified them?. I suppose the bushes are a strut out job and gods knows what replacing the steering rack would entail. KB

Oooooh, Fifth Gear...... what a crap program.

I've got a '97 2.0 petrol, my gearbox makes a whine in second and third dependant on the revs, done it for nearly 20,000 miles. Just turn the radio up!

Rear Shocks
romseygalaxy replied to romseygalaxy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Changed the rear shocks, really easy. To save worrying about the bolt, i used a torque wrench to undo them, setting at at the specified setting, that way I knew the bolt could take that amount of strain and if they wouldn't undo, they would be siezed, but came undone no problem. Kev -
It's a mark 1. , had an offer for 2.

Tailgate Wire Boots
romseygalaxy replied to morticiaskeeper's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
My tailgate boots are going 'south'. The wires insdie are also starting to crack etc. As the boot is in one piece, how go you replace it?. Do you have to strip down the tailgate and remove the wiring to thread through the new boot? Kev -
Having been away from forum for over a year ( yeah, i know.. rejoining when you have a problem is a bit iffy!) Thought I would tell you about the last year. '97 Gal 2.0 GLX 95000 miles. 4 new tyres

Some time ago I bought a set of the door / kerb lights to fit. Having taken the door to bits, I found I had no wiring! Does anyone want to make me an offer? KB

Rear Shocks
romseygalaxy replied to romseygalaxy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi, looked at the attachment, I assume that is the VW guide. i have the Ford TIS, which is much more basic! The ford TIS just says raise veh, undo, and replace. ( torquing on the ground) I have removed the spare wheel and sprayed into the small holes and will now have to wait until the weekend. Kev -
Hello, returning to the forum after 12 month abscence ( and forgotton password etc). Still got the same galaxy though! I need to replace my rear shocks. All easy except getting the *
