  1. I know this is a coupe of years after the thread started but great info as I needed to remove the rear bumper of my 02 Alhambra so to fit a Basal towbar. As yes, Nikvp instructions worked for that model. Just to add to the excellent instructions that Nikvp gave, when he says 'Detach the bumper cover side trim panels (wheelhouse liner screws already removed)' you need to give it a good old tug as the bumper side trim panel is fixed to the body via those horrible 'snap together' clips. Also do his instructions in sequence or if like me you leave the side trim panel to last, the bumper will fall off once you have given the trim panel a good old 'tug' Many thanks Nikvp for the info
  2. Not had chance to look under bonnet yet, but had rattling noise this morning but went within a coulpe of minutes. This leads me to think that as the car was siiting in 'nice' Mr Clutch garage for well over a week I may have a bit of gumming in one of the hydraulic tappet ports. If I depress the clutch it make no difference in noise......... Dont think its turbo pipes as it runs brilliantly and the 'spinning whistling' noise has gone. BUT all I really need is sort of convincign that its not the clutch etc
  3. Well in my nievity and haste in getting Albert into a garage plus a recommendation from another mechanic I took it into Mr Clutch.......oh dear I hear you say!! After them initially taking the gearbox out, sending it away and then finding out it was the short driveshaft between box/diff and RH driveshaft I eventually got the car back. While the box was out I got the clutch and slave cylinder replaced. The clutch I got replaced as 'why not' as the box is out and the slave cylinder was weeping. Also I was lucky enough to have a worn dual mass flywheel, which was replaced at near
  4. Only thing with that is its within the gearbox............but could still be as surely the diff is being driven, hence the speedo movement, but not meshing correctly with driveshafts and giving that expensive grating noise. Hope its not the diff!!!
  5. Just a quick post as I'm having problems getting garage time, have noticed that with car in gear, clutch released and grating noise giving it some, the speedo starts to indicate plus speedo increases with accel. Does this mean there is an output from the gearbox and so it and clutch is ok? Where is the speedo 'sensor' located then? I know post is half dead but like to have an idea before eventually putting Albert into garage.
  6. Many thanks Iain..........I can see you've recently had a bit of work done. I'm finding that mine likes to go the garage every 3-4 months..........keeps the garage owner smilin!!!! Will post results later in week when I get Albert taken in.......
  7. Cheers Radio 2 & Iain Lifted front end, selected first, on steadily turning either wheel no noise and other wheel turns in opposite direction BUT if the wheel being turned is given an extra bit of 'umph' it sort of slips and a rachety noise can be heard. (same as main symptom noise but obviously slower) This happens when turning either wheel. So possibly CV joint then? Iain could i ask how much you paid please
  8. Hi all, its my first post so please be gentle.......... Have got major no-go problem with my 02 plated Alhambra 1.9 tdi 115PS manual 6 speeder 47k mls. With wheels turned for a right turn and on pulling away from junction the car lost all drive and all that could be heard was an expensively loud 'gear crunching/not meshing properly' sound whenever the clutch was released. Having been towed home by mate, I did a bit of searching through previous posts and did a bit of on-car invest and would like your considered opinions. Here's the bits that I know: Putting the car in any gear and releasing the clutch, the grating/non-meshing properly sound is heard. This 'speed' of the noise increases with gear selection. (1st slowish grating sound - 5th faster grating sound). The car moves very slightly as clutch is moved to roughly the bite position but not enough to make the wheels turn even when clutch totally released....(grating noise doesnt change in pitch or tone at any clutch position the sound only changes with only with accel position or gear selection) Additional info: The gear selector on top of the gearbox can be seen to move when gear lever moved. No apparent smells as per slipping clutch or oil loss as per totalled gearbox. I'm thinking of a problem on the output side of gearbox, especially with the 'speed' of the noise changing with gear selection. This thinking is also coupled with a couple of posts with very similar symptoms which are linked to driveshafts. With little in the way of facilities to fix the thing, I am curious as to what others think and also to prepare myself for the bill. Look forward to your replies ty
