  1. It's not necessarily turbo vanes that need cleaning. For me, we replaced the air mass sensor / MAF sensor (about £50) and it was fixed. It was covered in a light film of oil which affected it's ability to report the correct air flow which is why the car went into emergency mode. Oh, and we took it to a dealership beforehand and they suggested the turbo was replaced at £1000. Muppets. When you look at a turbo, there is hardly anything to break. Good luck. The car is a pain when it goes into that mode.
  2. The rear only. I think two pipes come from the washer bottle and if I remember correctly the pump flows in one of two directions to select front or rear.
  3. After not finding many impartial reviews on them I took the plunge and bought a pair of Xtron HD909 DVD Headrests. I thought I'd share my feedback for other's benefits. Overall, I'm fairly pleased. I had one dissapointment and a couple of minor issues. I have a Titanium X with black leather interior so I opted for the faux black leather. It is a reasonable match. You don't notice any difference from a distance and it's only if you start hard enough will you see the change of colour. They're quite easy to fit. You have to use the 14mm inserts that are supplied with it. I did notice one problem though, the inserts slightly restrict the headrest adjustment spring so you have to file down the hole in the supplied insert about 1mm to give the spring greater retention strength. That's easy to do - not a problem, but you wonder why you should be doing it. Even then it is not quite strong enough. The metal pole has indentations for the sping bar to hold against but they're not deep enough. If you want your headrest higher up it will have a tendency to drop down. They're wider than the factory headrests. That's obvious as you've bought a 9" screen - but it does mean you have very slightly restricted vision when looking across your shoulder at the kids. I think my biggest disappointment is that you cannot adjust the angle of the headrest. Compared to the factory ford headrest, the cushion is about an inch further back than normal which means you can't rest your head as easily on it as you did before. I wonder whether on a long journey I'll notice the difference. The screens themselves are fine. As with all of these screens, they come with an odd resolution so you will either end up with black bars top and bottom or you will zoom in and lose some left and right picture. But that will be the case whatever model you opt for. The radio transmission is good - star wars coming through the car speakers sounds like you're in the cinema! In summary CheapGood screenNice wireless transmissionColour a reasonable matchHeight adjustment not strong enoughCannot adjust the headrest angle - may be uncomfortable on a long drive If anyone is interested I will post photos and wiring instructions.
  4. If anyone is interested, in the end I gave up and took it to the garage. The fault lay by the bottle; there is a filter at the bottle and this was clogged.
  5. I wouldn't bother with the line in connection. Physical wires. Yuk. Also you can't shut the glove box. Use the bluetooth connection! Pair the phone with the radio. Better still, you get to control the volume and change tracks/chapters using the steering wheel controls. Far better! Enjoy your titanium. They're Fab! I'm on my 4th Galaxy.
  6. My rear washer stopped working a few weeks ago. When I pull the washer stalk I can hear a relay clicking and the motor is turning, so it is not an electrical problem. I disconnected the pipe from the back of the boot light unit and no water flows from it when the pump in the front turns. I can see the pipe runs across the roof from the rear washer and heads down the driver's side of the car. A lot of the forums when referring to rear washer problems refer to the "passenger footwell". Note this is for the Galaxy MK2. On the Galaxy MK3, it doesn't go via the passenger side. I've traced the tube around the front of the bonnet, near the radiator, up the left side of the bonnet until it enters the front of the car about half a foot in from the left (shown in red the picture below). When I call for water I can hear what appears to be a flow of water on the rising column next to the driver, above the dashboard. I wonder whether the pipe has disconnected here. My concern is where is the water running, and how do I remove the trim around here? It feels fairly firmly fitted.
  7. I'll add myself to the tally. 2001 1.9 TDI, 80k on the clock. It started to occur just went my wife went up the local hill, started occurring more frequently then happens pretty much every time. The key is to get the diagnostics on it and determine whether it is an overboost or an underboost problem. The overboost problem (which I had) is where the vanes fail to open due to carbon build up, so the boost accumulates up with no limiting and no excess air escaping. The engine then shuts itself down into limp-home. Once you turn the engine off and on again it starts again in normal mode. I'll try your driving technique. That'll save getting the turbo out. Thanks!
