well just for the record i still havent got it sorted so i reckon its auto electrician time,i cant stand being defeated like this but i want the thing to work and i just know its going to cost me a shed load.i will keep you all posted on his findings and if he fixes it.thanks people for the input.

i have just replaced my rad and its definately doable without touching the air con but bear this in mind that i have a sharan with a vw engine(could be smaller than the ford engine)and it was a breeze a little fiddley yes but i didnt remove the front bumper just the headlights indicators grill fan and rad shroud then pushed the whole lot back enough to get to the air con rad bolts that attach it to the rad and slid the rad out from underneath.the job probably took me about 6 hours but i have got a smashed right leg with a metal frame around it.one tip i would give you is to leave the card board packaging on until you have got it roughly in postion as you want to avoid as much damage to the fins as possible.hope this helps mate. -
thanks for the reply mrt but it doesnt have climate control only bog standard air con,but im still waiting for a break in the rain to go out there and continue investigating

hmm thats food for thought i too had the window problem due to a melted wire from the fuse box which i fixed so i recon you could be on the right track here i have seen the socket fuses youre talking about but it never dawned on me that they were related im going out later to investigate this and have another good rake round under there.I never did get to the bottom of why the wire melted so a bad earth could well be to blame(fingers crossed)so all things being equal you and i could have working speedos by the weekend touch wood,thanks for the input mate

good evening everyone, im wondering if anyone can shed some light on my problem of my speedo not working? the exact problem is i have no needle movement on the speedo and it doesnt clock up the miles on either of the digital displays but after reconnecting the battery it does do the dial reseting action and everything else works perfectly.i have checked the mulitplugs on the back and found no probs.someone mentioned in another post that it could be the speed sensor that was causing them trouble does anyone know where its postioned?im assuming its on the gear box some where and is there any way of checking this out?I should mention at this point that its a 98 vw sharan 2.0 auto.i dont really want to change the dash as im sure in my own mind that things are ok up there as i get the reseting movement after dissconnecting the battery and also dont want to buy a new unit only to find that the problem is still there.any help would be fantastic as im really at a loss as to what it is.thanks in advance.

i think i will leave it as a auto. now this brings me to my next question does the sharan share the same engine with anything else in the vw range? say for example a golf?sorry that its not ford related but you are a real helpfull bunch and always answer!! thanks in advance

no not lifting it by hand as it needs to be taken out from underneath lol.now thats very interesting about the engines i always thought that ford supplied the 2 and 2.3 engines to the sharan and vw supplied the 2.8 to ford oh well i better start looking at vw lumps then

hi all,i have just bought a sharan,ok i know its not a ford but in my eyes they are the same!!now its a 2 litre auto and the engine is shot but my question is has it got the same engine in as mondeo 2litre and while im there could i change the auto box for a manual as i know to replace the engine you have to remove both.its a 99 s plate.and is the engine swap as easy as the haynes book of lies makes out?

right then i have decided to go for the 2.3 auto as this helps me out in my current state (shattered right leg due to bike crash !!and yes i should have listened to you darling XX)thanks for all your help in making my mind up you really are a helpfull bunch

I think it looks fantastic really like the colour its sort of grown on me when i first saw it i thought AHRGGGGG what were they thinking but now i love it !! i love things different and as an exbiker i love to stand out in a crowd :) :P

yes big kev thats the one and what dipsomaniac was spot on i never even thought of that, you guys and LADIES on here a spot on with your answers what a real helpfull bunch you are thanks for your help.I will let you all know what happens and what i buy i really like the mk II but dont tell the mrs that she wants the mkI again :)

sorry about the fella bit it wasnt until i read through my post i realized SORRY i did try to edit it but then it was to late opps!!! and to be honest i did think if it was easy then why hadnt he done it.i think im going to leave well alone as engines are more my thing and i saw one that went cheap, again on ebay,mkII busted head gasket!!mysearch continues

sorry , should have said that the keys DO NOT start the car, the guy said in his advert he has replaced the keys and after reprogramming it "should"fire up it just seems to good to be true and to cheap but im all for a bargain!!!

Evening all the mrs has told me she wants a new galaxy and to be fair she needs one <_< now i have seen one on ebay cheap cause it had lost keys,now the keys have been replaced but need reprograming does anyone know what its going to cost me to get this done?
