  3. hello i have a 1995 1998cc dohc petrol gal with 100,000 miles on the clock the car was running great up until a couple of days ago when i noticed that there was a slight hesitation when setting off i didnt think much of it but the problem started to worsen as the days went by the hesitation grew worse and worse until it felt like the whole car was going to fall apart with the vibrations so i left it where it was till the next day and when i returned for it it started straight away the all hell was let loose the car felt like it was about to explode as the vibrations coming from the engine nearly tore it apart i noticed that the engine was barely ticking over and was hovering around 500 rpm and then the engine cut out. i tried to restart it but there was nothing i put some new spark plugs in and hey presto started straight away but i noticed the fog that was pouring from the exhaust not a little but bloody loads of white smoke and the hesitation on accelaration is still there and there is also a missfire coolant level is fine oil is ok not milky or anything and cant think of any answers please help mick
  4. hello there my gal broke down yesterday as i was doing the school run and when i try to restart the engine will rev for a couple of seconds and then die again any ideas its a 1996 2l dohc
  5. just wanted to ask i was told by tester that galaxy was a passenger car and that cat test figures for pass were oil temp 60 fast idle 2500- 3000 rpm co =0.3 hc=200ppm lambda 0.97 to 1.03 idle 450-1500 rpm which are all default limits however having been informed with a snippet of info from someone in the know i checked the vosa website and i quote for emissions purposes a passenger car is constructed or adapted for the carriage of passengers has no more than 5 seats in addition to the driver has a maximum gross weight of not exceeding 2500kg is not a goods vehicle eg car derived van van pick up or truck and with this in mind a seven seat galaxy i was told should not be tested under these figures but unde these for galaxys used between 1 aug 92 to 31 july 95 carry out non cat test with co=3.5 hc=1200 for galaxy first used 1aug 1995 to 31 aug 2002 carry out cat test to vehicle specific limits which in my opinion would make emissions test a lot easier to pass without having to expensive repairs so who is right my source or the mot fella who uasally fails my gal on emissions
  6. ant the price reasonable or not what do you think?
  7. hi been quoted for work needed to pass mot that track control arm and replacement bushes on front offside and front discs and brake and pads on front around 276.00 complete and can anyone tell me what track control arm and bushes are and what they do? cos i thought bushes were things that grew in fields not on cars B) thanks mick
  8. i had a look in the haynes manual and in the braking sytstem section it says that the thickness of each pad must exceed 7mm including the backing plate thats why i thought it strange that i was told to replace them when they seem ok
  9. yes checked both out and inner a nd all roughly same size 14 mill includes backing plate
  10. hello all put my 96 n reg gal failed its mot on front offside bushes and also on the roller brake test with what looked like to be brake alignment check on front end the fail sheet states that i need new front discs and pads and also replacement bushes on what i think is the front offside wishbone i was curious to know how the fella knew that i needed new discs and pads on front as i assumed that you needed to remove the front wheels to get an acurate idea as to whether they need replacing i have been quoted 270 quid to do the work and i was just wondering whether the bushes could affect the cars braking system during the brake test because when i got the car home i thought i would have a look at discs and pads and the pads have around 14 mil left on all 4 and the discs looked ok with no scrathes or gouges on them there is a small lip running around the outside edge with rust on but apart from that they seem ok the bushes that he stated do however seem coroded and cracked any ideas thanks
