Drive Shafts - Maybe
dodalexander replied to chromedome's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I fitted a set of the J&R ones about 20K miles ago, and one of them gave up on me today. Can't really complain at the price though, and I have a replacement sitting in the garage ready to be fitted. -
Vcds-Lite And Auto Controller Codes
dodalexander replied to dodalexander's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks all, I will have a look at the wiring next. The gearbox has a problem with power transfer in 4th and 5th gears, but I want to rule out any electrical cause before getting anything done to the box itself. -
Hi there, I'm trying to use an EBay cable and VCDS lite to get the fault codes from my auto gearbox. The program is talking to the other controllers (engine, instruments) OK, but it complains that it can't communicate with the auto gearbox controller. Is this the normal behaviour, or should I expect to get some response from the auto gearbox? Thanks George 2002 1.9TDi auto

Ford Galaxy Wobble
dodalexander replied to MPV Sales's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Mine is a TDi automatic, but suffered a similar intermittent wobble from around 45-60mph. Replacing the front driveshafts (a complete assembly with CV joints) has cured it. -
Would you have a parts list for the whole job? I've been thinking about doing the same to improve the ride and hopefully fix the rear alignment.

2001 Scrubbing Right Rear Tyre
dodalexander replied to weldit's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks Paul, the load on the car is no more than cases and other bits and pieces for a week's holiday - I'd say less than having all 7 seats occupied by adults. The lean on the rear wheels, especially the left rear, is pretty obvious when loaded. The wheels certainly don't look like they are disappearing into the arches though. -

I'm also seeing heavy wear on the inside 2 inches of each rear tyre, but only when I'm running with the Galaxy loaded with holiday gear. The rear wheels are noticeably splayed out - is this likely to be down to shock absorbers? -
Mk1 Alloys On Mk2 Galaxy
dodalexander replied to dodalexander's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
No, they're 16 inch, but rather than catching on the rim itself it is the side of the caliper that seems to stick out beyond the face of the hub, and catches the back of the lattice/spokes of the wheel. I've found some 3mm spacers on Ebay which I guess could solve the problem - are there any drawbacks to using these? -
I have a set of 16" alloys from a Mk1 Galaxy (the kind of lattice pattern wheels), and was planning to fit them on my 2002 Mk2 TDi Galaxy to replace the aftermarket alloys it came with. However the Mk1 alloys seem to catch the brake caliper on the front wheel! That will teach me for assuming they would fit, but is this a well-known point or has something been changed on my car that would cause this? Cheers, George

After snapping a bit off my wiper linkage when unsticking the spindles, I got hold of another 3-bolt linkage on Ebay and fitted it today. However, the original part (7M3955023A) on my 2002 1.9TDi turns out to be slightly different from the part I bought (7M2955023A from a 2000 V6). I had to drill new holes to fit my original motor, the lugs around the motor arm at each end of the sweep are not on the 7M2 part, and the linkage arms seem to be a slightly different configuration with all the arms a different length from the 7M3 arms. Now that the 7M2 is fitted it's running without any major problems but I'm not sure I have the arms set up the right way. Has anyone seen this 7M2 part, or tried something similar and hit problems? Cheers, George

Checking Alternator Pulley
dodalexander replied to Seatdriver's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
My alternator pulley seized recently, and at idle the tensioner was constantly vibrating with around 5mm or more movement. After replacing the pulley the tensioner hardly moves at all when idling. However the new pulley starts making a loud whistling noise after running for 10 minutes, so that's the next thing to sort out  -
Hi there, My 2002 Gal TDI 115 has come down with the dreaded alternator pulley failure, and as usual the info on here has made diagnosing things very easy :) However does anyone have the SX400 tool that I could borrow to take on the replacement job myself? Anywhere between Cambridge and Peterborough, or close to the M11 would be within my range. Thanks, George

Hi there, I'm looking at replacing the 6000CD unit in my 02 Galaxy with something more useful. Ideally it would be a unit which can do the following: Play MP3s (whether from SD, CD or USB) Support the steering wheel controls Support the Ford CD multichanger in the boot Single DIN size is preferred. Can anyone recommend a unit for the job? Ideally the budget is

6000cd - Buttons Stop Working
dodalexander replied to dodalexander's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
So it seems that when I turn off the engine and remove the key while the radio is still on, it loses the steering wheel controls and CD changer. Removing the power to the radio so that I have to enter the code again brings everything back, and if I switch the radio off using its power button before I turn the ignition off then all is OK when I switch on again the next time. Sounds like an internal fault to me - has anyone seen this before? Thanks, George -
6000cd - Buttons Stop Working
dodalexander posted a topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Here's hoping someone has seen this before, or has a quick and easy solution: I've just upgraded my 5000 RDS unit in my 2002 Galaxy (CD changer in boot) to a 6000CD unit. All works well after entering the code, but at some point in the next day or two it stops responding to the steering wheel controls, and forgets about the existance of the CD changer. The radio and head-unit CD are still working OK though. Removing the power and re-entering the code bring everything back to normal, at least for a day or so... Any ideas? The 6000CD was a second-hand unit, but it seems a strange thing for it to work to begin with. Cheers, George
