It's because the car isn't a Ford, it's really a VW in drag.

IDS will be able to access the Ford engine, and very usefully, the PATS immobiliser system.

For all the other systems on the car, you need VAG-COM. Fortunately, you can buy the interface on ebay for literally a few pounds, search for "KKL USB", then sort lowest price + p&p. You can then download the free VCDS-lite software from the Ross-Tech website.
  2. sparky Paul's post in Galaxy Wheel Bolts The Same For Alloy And Steel ? was marked as the answer
Yes, the captive washer bolts are fine to use with either wheel.

Incidentally, AFAIK early cars all had solid bolts. My mark 1 car has had alloys and solid bolts from new, so I don't think it would matter much the other way either. Put it this way... I haven't had a wheel fall off in 14 years.
  3. sparky Paul's post in Steering Rack Problems was marked as the answer
    Ditto.

I don't think the rack often gives problems, hence the lack of any mentions on here. I haven't done this myself, but Mr Haynes says drop the subframe, or 'cross member' as they call it.
  4. sparky Paul's post in Rear Break Pistion Would Not Depress was marked as the answer
If the pads and discs are really worn, the piston can disengage from the handbrake adjuster screw. Because the piston is at it's fullest extent, it can then cock slightly and jam in the bore. Try rotating the piston in the opposite direction to free it, then ensure that the piston is square in the caliper before applying the wind back tool.

Failing that, you will have to take the caliper off so you can take out the piston and see what's going on in there.

Also bear in mind that the piston can be quite stiff to turn when extended, particularly on old calipers.
