Hi Everyone 2003 1.9Tdi, PD engine, 90k miles Two problems 1. Misfiring when pulling in 1st and 2nd 2. When starting from cold, engine ticks over with an intermittent stutter/misfire until the engine is warm, accompanied with dark blue smoke from the exhaust, which coincides with the stutter/misfire I've solved Problem 1 (hopefully) by fitting a new injector wiring loom, but Problem 2 persists. I hooked up VAGCOM and there are no fault codes, however the readings on Measuring Block 13 seem a little strange. Cylinder 1 is always much higher than the other 3. Regularly over 2.0 during the misfire. Whilst it's still within what VAGCOM says it should be (-2.8 to +2.8) the other cylinders have much lower readings. Am I right in thinking that the high reading is associated with the misfire ? When the engine has warmed up the misfire goes away, and all the readings on Block 13 are all low. Also, in Block 4, (Unit injector valves command) box 2 reads 4.3 BTDC and box 3 reads 5.1 CF. I'm not sure if those readings are relevant Clutch in or out doesn't make any difference. Any suggestions gratefully received Cheers

Hi Everyone, My 2003 Galaxy 1.9tdi has been suffering a parasitic battery drain. It will go flat from fully charged in 2 days. I have traced the drain to the pink fuse in the engine compartment that is labeled "Alarm, multifunction modules". Removing it reduces battery drain to next to nothing. I also have the dreaded centre locking issue (intermittent ground fault) Could the two be connected ? i.e. is the centre locking system draining the battery whilst the car is locked because it's grounding out, and the removal of the pink fuse stops this ? Any help gratefully received Cheers

Or does anyone know what particular model of Webasto heater is fitted ? Vehicle is a 2003 1.9 Tdi, 115 BHP Cheers -

Hi Everyone, Went away on holiday and airport parking seem to have detached the little exhaust pipe off the auxiliary heater under the vehicle, so the hot heater gasses (and smoke on startup) are being directed under the car and not out the side as usual. It appears the pipe is attached to the heater using 4 tabs that bend over and hold it. I have looked in all the local breakers yards in Kent, and cannot find one. I have trawled the 'net and can't seem to find the part number for the pipe. I'm assuming that the pipe on it's own has a number, rather that the whole unit. The rest of the heater works fine. Anyone know where I can find the part number for the pipe ? (or have a spare/redundant pipe that I can purchase ?) Cheers

A/c Compressor Testing
flames7607 replied to flames7607's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
So it's a 2003 1.9 Zetec, with a/c button rather than climate. Halfords didn't remove anything, they checked it was gassed and did some diagnostics to see why it wasn't producing cold air, and the result was that the compressor had failed. Vagcom is not showing any a/c fault, but I wouldn't know what measuring blocks to look at to see if the compressor is faulty. Cheers -
Hi everyone, glad to see forum back and running My A/C does not work. Switch lights up, but no cold air. A sound from under the bonnet when the switch is on. Halfords checked it and said the compressor was knackered, but gas was OK. They want mega-bucks to replace, and will only use Eurocarparts stuff, which is poor quality. Are there any tests I can do to the compressor to confirm the whole thing is faulty (and not just the clutch) I have full Vag-com if that's any use. Any suggestions gratefully received. Cheers

Hi, Anyone know if you can test the performance of the glow plugs using Vag Com ? I have the full working version. I get a sort of misfire/shudder on first start up, which clears after 5 minutes or so on tick-over, and I suspect it's a glow plug failing to get hot. There is also noticeable blue smoke from the exhaust for that first 5 minutes. I've scanned for codes and there are none, so I wanted to see the performance of each glow plug / cylinder before I pull glow plugs out. Cheers

Thanks Xavier, hopefully when it's fixed things will be a little warmer in the cabin. Cheers -
Engine Temperature Gauge Source
flames7607 replied to flames7607's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks BrianH, I'm suspecting that the two problems may be linked. Cheers -
Hi, Can anyone tell me whether the engine temperature gauge on the dash uses the same source as the engine temp readingI see when looking at the engine through Vag Com ? My engine does not seem to be getting up to temp, and it's either a faulty sender, or the thermostat stuck open. After a 30 minute drive the temp on Vagcom was only up to 70 degrees. Vehicle is a 2003 1.9 tdi Zetec Cheers

Aux Heater Questions
flames7607 replied to flames7607's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi, Thanks for the replies. I'm going to do more testing with Vag Com today and post the results and readings. The error code sometimes appears when I scan. I clear it, and the heater starts up, and, after cruising around like a Red Arrow trailing smoke, things "seem" normal (jet engine noise, hot exhaust, clicking from dosing pump. Then, a few days later, if I scan, the code will be back. If I recall, the inlet and outlet coolant temps have similar values, and they steadily increase up to 90-100 degrees. This takes less than 5 minutes. The chamber temp climbs to the high 200's and then seems to shut down, and both the inlet and outlet temps drop. I have tried at this point to scan for an error code to explain why it shut down but there is none, even if I turn the engine off and on again. The thing that surprised me is that the difference in temp between inlet and outlet is so small, hence me diagnosing the run on pump failure (pump not drawing in cold coolant from engine.) Does anyone know if the coolant drawn/pumped into the heater comes from the engine block or from the radiator side of the thermostat ? If I didn't have a aux heater I would assume my low engine temp is caused either by a faulty gague/sender, or the thermostat it stuck open. When sitting with the engine running for 10 minutes and testing the heater, the engine temp on Vag Com never rose above 50 degrees. Cheers -
Aux Heater Questions
flames7607 replied to flames7607's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
In addition to the above, the temp gauge on the dash does not rise above 70, even after driving around for an hour (winter time) I'm guessing that this is because it's not benefiting from the heat from the aux heater because the water is not being pumped ? -
Hi All, Sorry, but it's ANOTHER post about the Aux heater . . . . . Ford Galaxy 1.9 zetec 2003 I've spent many hours reading through the many posts on the heater. Question 1. I know my run on pump needs replacing (only comes on when pushed towards the bulkhead) new pump ordered. Using Vag Com, I have got the fault code 01410 - Heater Over-Temp 06-00 - Signal too High Is this because the water is not flowing through the heater ? I have watched the temperatures on the inlet and outlet pipes via Vag Com, and there is very little difference between them, I guess because the water is not flowing. When I clear the code it doesn't seem to come back, and the heater fires up as normal, albeit there is no flow of coolant through the heater. Question 2. Smoke, lots of smoke ! ! white in colour and smelling of diesel - I'm thinking the glowplug is not getting hot enough quickly enough ? The smoke will eventually clear after several minutes, and the heater does seem to fire up. However, whilst trawling through the many posts on the subject, some people think that the smoke is due to moisture ? Any help greatly appreciated Flames
