  1. Sean, What you need to do is put the car on axil stands or ramps and then remove the bottom engine cover (4 bolts and 2 nuts). You can then get to the belt tensioner bolt. Getting the belt over the alternator can be a bit of a git the first time but it gets easier with practise. Andy.
  2. My IACV is the same as yours, so I assume its okay. My idling is now 875 (ish) without any hunting.
  3. Stevoo Thanks for the offer, I may take you up on that, I am in Enfield North London. I will be changing the Lambda sensor on Saturday, if I still have a problem with rough idling I may contact you. I have checked out your ODB reader on ebay and it allows reading and reseting of error codes. Can it reset the ECM to base setting as well?
  4. According to the Haynes manual disconnecting the ECM wiring may erase all of the learned values (i.e. reset the ECM) except for the error codes. There are others threads stating that disconnecting the battery and shorting out the power leads does the same thing. After reconnecting the wiring the vehicle must be driven for several miles so that the ECM can relearn new values. However, the manual (and the TIS) states this won't work with a Galaxy 2.3 Auto (1997-2000). The only why to reset the ECM to a basic set-up is by using the Ford FDS2000 diagnostic equipment or equivalent equipment. Does this mean if I change the Lambda or other management sensor that I need to take the Galaxy to Fords to reset the ECM or would driving for several miles relearn new values?
  5. Stevoo, I have the same model as you and am experiencing rough idling. I changed a number of things, spark plugs, HT leads, Coil pack, Idle speed control valve and checked for hose splits. I unpluged the Lambda sensor and started the engine but didn't notice any difference in the idling. I will be changing the Lambda sensor next as it is suspect and it did cure your idling problem. Why don't I check the ECM error codes your probably asking, well Fords quoted
  6. I was wrong about the crankshaft pulley. When you look from under the car (i.e. with your head on the concrete and car jacked up) and looking straight up you get clear view of the belt alignment. The belt around the tensioner pulley was clearly protruding out further than the coolant pulley and crankshaft pulley. Removed the tensioner and all became clear. The tensioner spring had deformed and the pulley wheel and rear of the tensioner were not parallel. New tensioner bought for
  7. The belt is in pieces- in fact I don't have most of it as it is in many bits. Do you mean the main crank pulley slipping of the end of the crank? Is it just a matter of tightening it back on? thanks, Richard I have the same problem with my 97 Galaxy 2.3. My Auxillery belt has shredded twice this week. Last night I replaced the belt and the Idler pulley as it looked a bit ruff. Waiting to see if this has fixed the problem. I have noticed the belt overlaps the edge of the spring Tensioner pulley by 5mm, which would have tendence to push the belt outwards and force the edge of the belt against the crankshaft and coolant pump pulleys. What I can't tell is if its the crankshaft pulley, tensioner pulley or the coolant pump pulley that is out of alignment. I tugged at all three pulleys and they seem ok (no outward movement). I thinking of replacing the Tensioner as it is looks easy to do, although that
