  1. And this evening the faults it is showing are: VCDS-Lite Version: Release 1.2Wednesday, 14 June 2017, 19:18:25. Chassis Type: FG - Ford GalaxyScan: 25,01,02,03,08,09,15,16,17,18,19,22,29,35,36,37,39,45,55,56,76 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------Address 01: Engine Labels: 038-906-019-AJM.LBL Controller: 038 906 019 LR Component: 1,9l R4 EDC 0001AG 1565 Coding: 00001 Shop #: WSC 00020 VCID: 729759CB2DB73 Faults Found:17564 - Manifold Pressure Sensor (G71): Open/Short to Ground P1156 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent17569 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs P1161 - 35-00 - Please Register/Activate17965 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs P1557 - 35-10 - Please Register/Activate - IntermittentReadiness: N/A -------------------------------------------------------------------------------Address 02: Auto Trans Labels: None Controller: 09B 927 750 L Component: AG5 Getriebe 09B 0248 VCID: 351DA2D71C59No fault code found. From this I am inferring that the transmission issues haven't happened since clearing the codes (they haven't), but that the dodgy connection on the sensor we found today is still an issue. 17965 seems to be suggesting that pressure is too high, not too low as I previously thought, and that a split hose is not likely to be the problem. Any suggestions?
  2. Right, time for an update. I took the car to my local friendly garage who plugged it into their machine, got the same error codes as me (reassuring) and attempted to clear them. However it wouldn't let them. We got it on the ramp, and checked the transmission fluid. They were very dubious about me telling them that there was a level check on the bottom of the sump, but we found it and as we opened it some fluid came out. So I am assuming the level is good. However it was black, and smelled burnt, so I guess needs replacing. They are dubious about doing it as they know enough to know it needs to be done accurately, but don't have the right software to do the required checks. I on the other hand am blase enough to do the job, but can't get the car high enough to access the drain point and the level check. I think I've just about persuaded them to do a basic "put in as much as comes out" change which I figure is as good as I'm going to get without paying Ford hundreds of pounds an hour just to look at it. However this leads on to my next point. We are looking at somewhere in the region of 5 litres @ £31 per litre, and I'm not sure I want to spend that sort of money if there is another option. Is there a different source of transmission fluid that will do the job that doesn't cost a ridiculous amount? Anyway, back to the story. I had a quick look at the hoses I could see clearly while it was in the air and couldn't see a split, but we did notice that the clip had broken on a sensor and it had come loose. We put this back on and were then able to clear all the error codes. So I'm not actually much further forward, but my plan is to see what error codes come up now, as any it shows now will definitely be new. I'm currently wondering about buying a coupe of axle supports to raise the car, but if I do that will the angle be an issue when checking the fluid?
  3. On a related note is it worth trying to use a turbo cleaning spray? I am wondering if the issues might simply be carbon build up...
  4. I've found the wiki at Ross-tech and this is what I can gather from these codes, please correct me if I've got the wrong end of the stick. 17964 and 17965 are to do with it being in limp mode and is likely to be to do with the vacuum hoses. 17569 is to do with a temperature sensor (I have no idea if this is erious or I can ignore it for now) 00300 is also possibly connected to limp mode, but to do with the Transmission fluid 01166 says the MAF might be faulty 00526 is to do with the brake lights and sometimes shows as faulty in Autos so I'm gonna ignore it for now. 00652 is to do with the Transmission fluid levels being possibly low. So by my reckoning I need to check and top-up/replace the Transmission fluid, I need to replace the MAF, and I need to check the vacuum hoses. I am taking it to my friendly local garage who certified my last Galaxy dead in the morning to check the trasmission fluid, I will talk to them about hoses and the MAF while I am there. Have I missed anything obvious? Or have I completely misinterpreted what is going on? Thanks again!
  5. Hi Brian, Thanks for your help with this, I really appreciate it. After much trial and error I did get the cable to work, and this is what I got from it. 6. This is driving me crazy. I've bought a lead, installed the drivers from the disk as it tells me to, checked the driver settings, installed VCDS Lite, and it simply won't recognise there is anything on any of the ports. I'll keep trying, but if there are any helpful tips you can give me they would be very much appreciated.
  7. Sorry! Forget that, found it in the FAQ.
  8. Thanks very much for your reply. I have ordered a cable, and will download the software once it arrives. Can you recommend a good tutorial for checking/replacing the oil in the gearbox? Thanks again, I very much appreciate your help.
  9. Good afternoon, I recently bought my second Galaxy, the first was a petrol '98 which I only let go because it dramatically failed an MOT, I ruched out and bought the newest Galaxy I could afford and I suspect I've been had. It's a '04 19.TDi Auto and it seems to have two very common problems. Of course neither of them showed themselves until I was hours driving away from the person I bought it from and there is no chance at all of me getting my money back. So I'm hoping someone might be able to talk me through attempting to resolve them. I'm pretty handy, but dont have much experience with engines. Problem 1) Not selecting gears when cold. WHen driving it first thing in the morning it sits in 2nd and won't shift. After about 10 minutes and the engine warms this goes away. I understand it is likely to be one of three solonoids, but I have no idea how big a job it would be to replace them. Problem 2) It switches into limp home mode when accelerating uphill. I guess I don't have to give any more details as this seems to be a very common issue. I have read that the first ting to do is to check and/or replace the vacuum hoses, but I dont even know which they are. I have however ordered a Haynes manual to see if that helps. If you are able to offer me any advice, help, or encouragement I would massively appreciate it. I spent every penny I had buying the damn thing and I can;t afford to throw money at a mechanic to help me fix it. If I have no choice I can probably lay my hands on a couple of hundred, but it will be a stretch. Thanks in advance.
