  1. I have a 1.9tdi Ghia X 1999 (T reg) which the cooling fans (2 off) only run on high speed when called by the coolant temperature thermostat. The fans doe not operate when the air con is set to auto. Traced the problem to the two tapped resistors below the battery tray, both resistors and the tapping points are reading open circuit with my multimeter set to low ohms. Have not been able to source any direct replacements for these but am more than happy to make my own. However to do this I will need the resistance and wattage ratings for the total resistance and also the tapping point. I was wondering if some kind soul on here who owns a multimeter or has access to the specs for this could offer me some assistance with suitable values.
  2. Okay found the cables had been chopped off, and a hole that houses the sensor in the lower mudguard adjacent to the near side fog light. Sourced a sensor from a scrapped Sharan and fitted it, job sorted. :-) Temperature now reading on the climatronic. Next sensor to track and fit. in the same loom as the MAF is another pair of cables which have been chopped off, suspect it is the air intake temperature sensor, need to locate where it fits on the air intake assembly, Will dismantle the air filter and hoses when the rain stops to try and see if a hole exists to connect and fit one.
  3. Unfortunately my Mk1 has no bracket in this area that would hold the sensor or evidence of a connecting cable from that part of the loom. Also from the MK1 handbook, regarding the FIS display states " EXTERIOR TEMPERATURE (Not displayed if self-regulating air conditioning is fitted) ". There is no orange part on my display just a monochrome LCD window below the rev counter. But thanks for the picture which shows very clearly where the sensor and cables are located on the Mk2. :-)
  4. Further to this I have been looking at the climatronic specs and found that if ambient air sensor fails, the controller falls back on the air intake sensor, could it be that ambient air sensor was not fitted to my vehicle from new and therefore relies on the air intake sensor alone. This would explain why fords report no ambient sensor part for my vehicle..??
  5. New owner of 1999 Galaxy Ghia x 1.9 tdi. has a few faults which I have no problem in dealing with except for one, which is the climatronic control panel ambient air reading shows -- deg C. All other readings and operation of the panel are functioning as expected, assuming that this reading comes from a sensor I suspect the sensor to be faulty, Enquiries at Ford main spares and an online sensor supplier for a replacement result in the response that there is no sensor for ambient air in their database for my vehicle, so where does the climatronic get the reading from.? Obviously no reading without relevant sensor so where is the sensor located, looked under the grills but nothing found except that three pairs of wires appear to have been chopped off near the horn position (the front fog lamps appear to have been removed accounts for one pair of wires, the horn has been rewired to bypass a fault within that system which accounts for another pair, so maybe it's the third pair that should be connected to a sensor?) I understand that this is probably a VW component. So if anyone has a solution to tracing the missing sensor and getting a reading on my climatronic, I would be grateful.
