  1. I had a loud squeal from the N/S front wheel. I took off the wheel and found no scuffing or scraping etc. I looked everywhere and nothing, turned the disc fast and no noise and the same with the wheel on. When i looked at the disc backing plate it was away from the wheel etc and no marks just brake dust. I tweaked it 100% straight and noise gone. I can't explain why there was no marks or scuffs where it was rubbing on whatever but noise gone. Sometimes it's a simple thing staring you in the face that is giving you grief.
  2. Aftermarket gearbox oil set up quite a wobble for me. Replaced it with dealership oil and wobbles gone and new gearbox feel.
  3. Auxiliary waterpump behind the battery. £35 on ebay. Filthy part cost me a new alternator and tensioner before I got onto it. Warning made me think I'll cutout and stall. That's what gave me the alternator/workshop warning.

  5. Replace the boost pressure sensor on the thick black pipe next to the battery and the air flow sensor on the air box also if over 50k miles. The egr/throttle is only £35 on ebay new so not worth cleaning the old heavily Carbon crusted one.Check all vacuum pipes for leaks but as they are behind a plate behind the engine on ghe bulkhead it's a tricky job. The brake servo pipe is common to split and you will feel a hard brake pedal but also acceleration issues or idle.
  6. The diode on the resistor always dies and costs under £1 and a quick bit of solder. The diode value is on the diode.
  7. I had the same going up a steep hill in Wales on single lane traffic. Replace the boost pressure sensor on the thick black pipe next to battery almost and the air flow sensor on the air box. £50 for both, one Bosch and air flow aftermarket. Never troubled again in two years.
  8. Is the battery correct. I know from my own experience the auxiliary pump behind the battery by the bulkhead was faulty but not shorting and gave me alternator/workshop fault. After replacing the tensioner and alternator it persisted. New pump at £25 and fault gone. Those pumps I know if shorting inside cause numerous dash errors. Just unplug it to test. Plug it in if nothing changes.
  9. I've read on many a site that the solid flywheel creates lots of vibration which causes gearbox wear as well as suspension. The dual mass flywheel has a counterbalance in to stop vibration. As for your vibration currently, from my experience the gearbox wants only VW genuine fluid. I had wobbles from pull away in all gears, grating and notchines. After the change it was like new, the aftermarket stuff was to blame. J&R a company in Birmingham sell on ebay the complete drives shafts for £37 each and full intermidiate shaft for £27. I've had mine in for 20,000 miles and still in good condition including the Boots.
