My Galaxy's (1.9 TDi Zetec (w)2000) engine developed a major fault yesterday, horrible clunking noise and loss of power. Local garage reckons its lost compression on No 4 cylinder (but doesnt knw why as its unusual on a galaxy) and it needs major engine rebuild or replacement engine but said he doesnt think its worth it as looking at over

Battery Problems - Help!
arnie70 replied to arnie70's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks for the replies, sorted the 2nd problem, it was down to a faulty connection on the negative terminal, changed the terminal clamp & ok now. Clamping the battery in place still not fixed but now know why, the old battery had a square lip at bottom but the new battery (and all batteries I've looked at) have a angled lip at bottom, my battery clamp is designed for the old one! http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b112/arnie70/untitled.jpg Have jammed a bit of wood under clamp to hold it in place for time being. Will I be able to get a different clamp? -
Had to jump start my gal a couple of mornings in the last few weeks. Had battery tested & it on its last legs. Went to my local Ford's and have got new battery, but got a couple of problems! 1 - new battery won't clamp in place?? Does the new battery need to be exact diamensions of old one? 2 - When tried starting car with new battery, turned on ignition, dials on dash went mad & just a clicking sound, engine never attempted to turn? So put old battery back in & started no probs? Confused!!

My Gal has developed a small problem. It has began to struggle to start and when switching ignition off the radiator fan kicks in for about 20-30 seconds (even if only been on a 2 min journey!). Recently had it MOT'd, passed fine, I mentioned these probs they think problems are linked & some sensor playing up somewhere, but they said it could be a bugger to find and would have to go on there computer (think they charge bout

Ok peeps, thanks for that!
-
Have disconnected MAF and car is performing much better! You state that leaving it disconnected will not cause any problems, therefore is it worth spending the money to replace the MAF? will I get even better performance with a new MAF connected then running with faulty MAF disconnected?
-
Thanks for that!!
-
If I find that the MAF is faulty, would I be able to leave it unplugged till I get a replacement or would this cause more problems?
-
By pulling the plug out as in step 1 photo, does this act as disconnecting the MAF to see if it is faulty? or would I need to do something else?
-
It sounds a bit odd but on a mkII it may possibly a brake switch (2 on the pedal) do your brake lights work ok ;) :D Hi thanks for that, having checked this morning my brake lights are not working! :D So it will be going back to garage tomorrow to have door, Air-C and brake lights looked at!

Hi, I'm new on here so please be gentle! Purchased a Galaxy 1.9 td (110) 2000 last week which I thought was a bargain. Having a couple of worries now and starting to think it wasn't such a bargain. 1 - AC not blowing very cold. 2- One of doors not locking. 3- driving today and the glow plug light (or is it a coil?) started flashing on & off. Any help gladly received!
